200k is enough to get you started. It's not rich, but it is certainly well off. You'd break the bank trying to buy top tier gear and meld it, but you are off to a good start! Take some of that money and try to invest it when in various enterprises in-game and put it to work for you. :)

Thanks for the advice, but me and investments don't get along. I've been playing mmos for over ten years, and I have yet to find a market which I can 'play' despite numerous attempts. I'm more of a 'source' for those who CAN play the investment game, unfortunately.

It's nice to know I have at least a good platform to stand on in terms of setting up, considering I can perhaps double it if my stuff sells (Reasonably priced I assure you). It's just one of those things where now is the time to find out if I'm doing it wrong, before any more time is wasted :)

I am a legacy player, started with 300'ish Gil and ended up with 260'ish and leveled SMN to 47 :P I don't mind spending Gil.

I'd trade all of my gil right now to be able to login, though...

20's I'm not really sure.

As you get into your 30s and 40s however:
Karakul Sheep in Coerthas (fleece)
Golden Fleece (Snurbles) in Eastern Thanalan near the Burning Wall. (Snurble Tufts)
Hippogryphs in Mor Dhona (Hippogryph Skin)
Imperial Soldiers at any of the Caustrum's (Drop small gil quantities and Imperial crafting materials)

In general you can check xivdb.com for higher level crafts and see what ingredients they use then go farm them. Usually they will sell for a decent amount. And unlike most MMOs FFXIV often requires mats from low level mobs in high level recipes. It's not like WoW, Aion or the likes where mobs drop "trash" that you NPC. Basically hoard everything, pick up the materia conversion ability, convert used gear to materia and all of that stuff can be sold for a pretty penny.

Yeah, this is probably where I started going wrong, tended to vendor a lot of my stuff, although this was mostly due to it being small quantities.

Legacy, but rolled a new char on a new server.

Back in 1.23, with relic supplies in extreme high demand and low in supply, I was lucky enough to make 0.5-1m/day. Considering the fact that gil has been adjusted 1:0.1 from 1.23 to ARR, you are talking about 50-100K. Mind you, this was on endgame supplies that were extremely lacking.

I recalled the day that I accumulated 1m, after close to 2 months of playing. IMHO/E gils are much easier to come by now as even as a lvl 36, I have already over 60K in one week, and I haven't sold anything yet.

However, ATM, there is no way to tell as the market has not stabilized yet, and you have tons of players who either are too lazy, or just too dumb to even bother to check prices to make sure they aren't overspending or overpricing on items. One example of this would be a GSM tool required for quest line that is sold by NPCs for 511 gil, but in the market it is listed for 650-3000 gils. Once people starts to follow the market a bit closer, more players doing DoH/DoL, a few months down the road you should start to see a more steady flow of supplies and demand. W/o this, there is really no way to see if your 250K is worth anything ATM.

No problem, happy to help. One other suggestion is that you can look for a crafting LS on your server. Seeing as how you can have 8 it can often be quite beneficial to have one that is specifically for that reason.

Legacy - started with 740k, sitting at 820k now. Haven't completed Haukke Manor in the main scenario yet, spent most of my time leveling crafts and helping folks with the first few dungeons.
