TC claim that it will be disastrous, but who know?
I have hope that Yoshi-P and scenario team will conjure a superb lore to integrate the add on into this game

Yes i know that Nael van darnus is not Sephiroth but there was many things that in body the sephiroth rule and i think that how SE should be doing it. I don't really mind added the real char into the game but adding a made up char like Darnus and giving him a few CS that remind you of Sephiroth is much better that what i'm trying to get at maybe if SE keep doing it like that it would be for the better.
The FF13 i understand it's to support both games people in FF13 team added something from FFXIV in the game so maybe this only be the case for this char if not then w/e i just enjoy the game.
Final Fantasy Tactics
Kingdom Hearts,
Dissidia.
So far every experience in which we've seen Final Fantasy characters taken out of their original contexts have been fairly special game or series. Having Cloud, even as a playable character, didn't 'cheapen' Final fantasy Tactics. Nor did the additional cameos effect War of the Lions.
Then there's Kingdom Hearts, the characters completely transposed out of their normal context and merely revisiting their story in a strange, different light - most of which being denizens of Radiant Garden. Their tales were memorable, even there.
And then there's Dissidia - a fighting game, with Final Fantasy characters. Its story very broken down to the core conflict of light and darkness, often being the first time you hear voices or 3D models of the characters from down to the first Final Fantasy. Yet, it is surprisingly well down, even when producing a prequel to feature additional characters, fully capable of explaining why they weren't in the game after.
If Square Enix is still capable of doing anything, it's writing a lore around wherever they decide to place their familiar characters. And, even when they don't, the cameo isn't game-breaking.
So I'm fairly confident in Yoshida's ability to do these fanservices justice to the world itself. To those who feel that each scrap of lore is sacred need to remember that the theme of time jumping and dimensional travel has been a key marker in the Final Fantasy series since inception.
I don't think you can really argue KH or Dissidia in this specific case. Those games are made to crossworld/realm. They separate continuities that don't have anything to do with the Final Fantasy numbered series, and are mainly to appeal to fanservice (KH bringing in beloved Disney characters/worlds with some FF characters, Dissidia pitting FF characters against each other a-la Street Fighter)
The issue many have is, the use of one character from a numbered FF (Lightning from XIII), and inserted into another numbered title and its world (XIV and Eorzea). Bringing in a character with her own specific background, and injecting that same background into the lore of the next numbered FF is what is causing concern for people. Me personally, as long as her quest remains low-key and not essential, I'm fine with it.
I do love this game a lot, and I think it does deserve a bit more respect than having previous famous characters being used as bait for more people to play the game (even though they don't want people to see it that way, it will happen) if it really REALLY fits the lore, and they're just in one area, let's say something like the Crystal Tower or somehing of the sorts, in which they don't come into XIV's universe but we have to enter theirs in a specifc zone, I can see it working. Can XIV stand on it's own? Yes. Do they need something like this? Nah. But I prefer having the characters be somehow connected to the story than see people wearing previous FF character outfits as if it were a cosplay event. (No offense to those psyched about this of course).
In the end I would've been happier if they wouldn't have done any of this, but let's face it. It won't stop most of us from playing, and if anything this might get more players to get the game, and they need plenty of subscribers to feel like this game is is far more succesful than the previous version. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they pull off the nostalgia move on the game. We already have onion knight gear, now Warrior of Light helm, Lightning and Snow gear and they probably won't stop there.
I respectfully disagree... I like the thought of running into old characters.
But I do wonder why this outcry occured at the sight of Lightning, and not at the sight of Terra that we saw months back?
Sorry for adding a bit more, but I also wanted to say that although I'm not happy about it, I was imagening my excitement due to, yes nostalgia, I would feel if I were to team up with Tera for example and the rest of my party to defeat let's say Kefka. It's kind of that emotional feeling one would get when playing a FF game for the first time and feel a strong connection with a character. Imagine if an extension of you, your own character would fight alongside your favorite protagonist to defeat your favorite antagonist. I know not all of you would feel that way, but many would for sure.
I know, if I want to do that I can just pick up Dissidia, but this would bring a far more personal experience, that many, including myself, would grow to enjoy. That is, if they do end up adding other characters, or make it a live event. For what we saw in a screenshot, we had a party fighting alongside Lightning against a mob from XIII. If that's possible, anything else is.
Well, whatever. If they're really insistent on doing this crazy thing, then there's only one thing I have to say. If Sephiroth ever becomes involved in the story, he'd better be a marriageable NPC.
The reason why there wasn't an outcry at Terra is that that isn't Terra. It's a Midlander woman with green hair and XIV clothes riding magitech armour as a homage to FFVI as part of the live letter of the same number. They never claimed that it ACTUALLY is Terra unlike with Lightning.
