Check out finalfantasyxiv.com ! That's what I used to get a handle on the 2 magic classes.

i just wanted to be like my old whm job in ffxi, i was a pretty good whm, so i decided "go conjurer" and i had alot of fun with it. i liked buffing and healing people whenever i saw ANYONE.
I play healers in all MMOs. It's my favorite role.
FFXI: White Mage
WoW: Holy Priest
WAR: Archmage
Aion: Cleric
So, when researching the caster classes on the official FFXIV website, it seemed that Conjurer was more the path of the healer (even if it is a WHM/BLM hybrid):
Wheras THM sounded like a pure damage-dealing caster:Quote:
Attuned to the essence of all things around them, the conjurers' intimacy with all forms of being enables them to shift between both offensive and defensive magic as needed.
I'm waiting on pins and needles to know which class will unlock White Mage and hope I didn't take the wrong path.Quote:
Thaumaturges are unparalleled in their powers of destruction, eclipsing even the Desciples of War.
I chose CONJ for a few reasons. First, I was a SMN/WHM/BLM in FFXI, but SMN and WHM were my favorite. I love healing. Since there are no pet classes yet, I went with the class I knew would be more of a dedicated healer. But... Conjurer isn't just a dedicated healer. It's sort of like a RDM or SCH. You're very versatile and I like that. THM seems more of an indirect support class to me -- both offensively and defensively. I may end up leveling both to not only supplement each other but also to get a feel for both.
