A server merger will bring a massive negative stigma, and more negative press then this game has gotten since 2 months after release. "FFXIV mergers servers after just 6 months" would be the headlines on all major sites. Good luck getting anyone else to try the game after that.
Even if it is makes the game 5-10 fold more enjoyable, it could prevent the PS3 release from being successful no matter how well they make it.
If they do a merger at this point, it would probably pay them just to shut the game down. -

We don't need a server merge.. but we do need a MARKET WARD MERGE
The only reason the markets aren't merged together is problems with retainer overcrowding. And that's just more evidence of catastrophic flaws in the retainer system. What if the servers were actually populated?
Perhaps it isn't a flaw within the retainer system itself.. but rather the game engine and optimization. Whatever it is, the Market Wards do not resemble a market.. At all. When you enter the wards, you feel like you're entering a world that is separate from the rest of the game. A twilight zone where the inhabitants do nothing but stare into space. -

FFXI the AH's where not linked together either, they only started being linked when they added expansion cities. And I think until a few months ago the 3 starter cities and Jueno where still kept separately.
Not a retainer restriction, more of a SE thing. -

I got all my gear from sandy AH from 1-19 and finding crystal and item that are link to quest within the city where full of them. The AH system in city was not dead too they added wing of the godness.Quote:

I love how some of you guys always say "Hold off until PS3 release at least!", look at the servers now. Lindblum is looking emptier by the day, Uldahs active pop has plummeted so i'd hate to see what it will be like in 4/5+ months time for ps3 release.

I as OP of this kinda like the idea of temporarly free server "Move" / "Jump", 1/character.
And im very much against "Regional" servers mainly because im swedish & all my old FFXI
and currently FFXIV friends are all over the globe, From Brits, US to chinese.
(and some for many years)
Withouth my FFXI / FFXIV friends i wouldnt play FFXIV.
so no thanks to Regional servers. -

You don't merge servers before you played all of the cards you have to get the population back in the servers. Considering that the biggest card SE has is the PS3 release, it's very, very unlikely that there'll be any server merges before that. And if that goes well, not even after that.
