Musketeer Needs a Job

They won't be adding musketeer at launch.
They might add it eventually and make it into corsair, but it would be much different then ffxi's corsair.

People see a sign in LL and think "Well that's gotta mean something." It doesn't.

I don't think they care about the balance of jobs per city. It's a little different now then in 1.0 the way starting classes work, but there will always probably be more jobs in one city compared to another, unless they always plan to add 3 jobs per xpac or w/e.

Bards from archer makes perfect sense since in every rpg game, ever, bards come from rogue classes/archers. You sing your songs and shoot arrows like a good little girl in the back lines. I think people played too much FFXI and think archers should always be rangers.

There is just no point to keep it a secret at this point, they have told us everything that is going into the game. Why not leak some art of the MUS or like, anything? Because it's not coming, that's why.

Wouldn't mind if I was wrong of course, any new job would be great. I just think they already have balance issues to work out with the jobs they have and many of them are changing greatly, so what's the point in adding in more new classes when it's just going to make that job even harder.

All of the FF that had bard they were all song, in westerns Bard is usually an after thought addition - in FF it was a focal point.

However in FFXIV its an after thought and I really dislike that.

In westerns your bard may sing one song with a buff and then shoot 90% of the time - their main focus isnt to be singing/playing music and rather is an addendum of whatever they evolved from - and the addendum aspect for jobs is lame - thankfully most of the classes are built into the job, but Bard is one of them that its a clear addendum and no focus.

If you can reason to me that black mages should be warriors and warriors should be thief's, chocobos should be moogles and moogles should look like Sephiroth then I'll agree that the Bard was a success.

'Musketeer' (a soldier armed with a Musket) is not the be confused with 'The Three Musketeers'.

RDM's class should be a fencer.
COR comes from Musketeer.

As someone who played ranger I was bummed on having to play "bard" because no one played "archer". Then I took bard up to 50 (grudgingly at that) and found I really enjoy it. It plays a lot like a Ranger would, I need to stop dd'ing to refresh songs and then I can go back to what I enjoy. I feel like bard has the perfect balance. I would like some more abilities/skills, but too much more would make it more would take away the focus on dd'ing the mob. To me it's seems pretty well balanced right now.


As for the post where it was said no one will be starting in Gridania, I think we'll see a lot more people than anticipated. I know I started in Ul'dah and I hated it. I'm looking forward to starting in Gridania where both the Archer's and Carpenter's guild are located!

Dont get me wrong I'm not saying Bard isnt balanced or fun - I'm just saying its not "bard". Every job in FF breaths its title, it IS its title, and Bard has thus been just Bard (loads of songs and music). Bard is no longer Bard now, he's just an archer who sings.


I'm not against the gameplay design (mix of dps and support spells) of how bard is in 1.0 (I know many who like it) I'm against the titling and cost of it, Bard in 1.0 should be called something else and the -real- bard introduced later with a dedicated instrument.

Edit: I like and hope the fact that classes are now to Guilds in each city that you can get a tighter experience and better intro, as well as not feeling like "this is the city I'm stuck with". Thats how I felt in 1.0 when it asked me to choose my city.

You make a whole lot of no sense.

I don't have to reason with you or convince you of a fact that is true, bards come from archers/rogues. I guess you want FFXI's bard of sing a song then afk for 2min- pretty engaging gameplay. I think the bard needs more then just singing a song and then have nothing to do for a long cooldown, obviously SE agrees.

Irony: RDMs had Marksmanship skill in XI and was changed to use Bows therefore RDM going off of Musketeer will work perfectly. The RDM unit during the Crystal War all used Guns btw, including Elivira, whom coined mainstream use of Conoarch after her father iirc.

But you said perfectly what I stated before: SE designed themselves into a corner with this system :D

Bards do not come from rouges. Bards are poets, and singers, minstrels. They -may- have learned other talents through their journey but that correlation you are making is incorrect to the definition of bard.

Your only point "bards come from rogues" is a generalization in past games (not FF games, and mostly westerns) but even then the point is not true in and of itself - Bards are not rogues, they are not archers, they are Bards (whatever else they know has nothing to do with being a Bard).

To add, most Bards in SE's games uses instruments. Most people who say "BRD shouldn't do x" never played a FF nor S/E game, they only want what the generic idea of a bard should be: "Level Rogue/Archer to 10-30, unlock Bard/Dancer."
