People don't 'lap stuff up" if it''s bad. That said people complain about things that aren't broken way too easily. The grass, This "flashiness" thing, jumping, etc. There's a difference in complaining about something that's actually a problem and complaining for the sake of complaining (e.g. being an attention #$%^e) to get a charge out of others.
I think I saw a thread like that sometimes...
And it isnt flashy its flashybulous. :P
The races in this game and their appearances are taken directly from FFXI. Change their names to anything you want, but they are still hume, elven, mithra, galka and tarutaru. Ul'dah, Gridania, and Limsa are the Windurst, Bastok, and San'doria of FFXIV. The Armoury is a modified version of the FFXI job system. Should I go on?
This game borrows more from FFXI than from any other game, which makes sense.
yeah but that was Tanaka not Yoshi-P ...he would've created full new races if given project from the start maybe..your best shot at FFXI-2 was with Tanaka and he chose not to do it so get over it already....lol cities in 2.0 have nothing to do with FFXI's totally different ...living in the forest will always be the same..just like living by the sea and in the middle of the desert ...and job system has been there from FF2 i think..so no
Weird that you should state this now Finchley... especially since about 18 months ago, you claimed (on these very forums) to have played FFXI... or played FF games for the last 12 years or so. FFXI weaponskills were flashy then and are flashy now... heck, we all know that the skillchains were designed to literally light up your screen. Same goes with FFVII and every FF title to FFXIII-2, 1.0 included.
FFXIV: ARR is a Final Fantasy game at its very core... it should be flashy... and Final Fantasy games are traditionally all about getting your character to exhibit an innate inner strength; hence the flashiness, the exaggerated animations, and the exceeding the confines of one's limits (hence the term "limit break").
You don't like it, fine...you'll likely have an option to turn it off in the beta. But don't just say its "wayyyyy" too much as if it is any different from what we had in 1.0 or any of the later FF series.
I agree, the normal abilites, mainly weaponskills are much too flashy and it kinda ruins the animations themselves, but i think if they simple made it a toggle so you could choose to see the "flashy" or not, atleast the basic attacks, then everyone would be thrilled!
Don't get me wrong , I like flashy with awesome stylized animations, but when you are spamming them over and over and over again it's just too much for the regular attacks, but definitely great for skillchains and limit breaks!
Or maybe even have it so it only flashes on a critical hit, then you know right away that it was extra awesome ^^
1. Who decided the races for this game is irrelevant, I simply stated that they are the exact races from FFXI.
2. I never said that I wanted an "FFXI-2", I was just trying to point out that this game is not "totally different" from every other FF.
3. I've no idea what your point is about the cities.
4. The job system in FF2 is "a bit" simpler than the ones used in FFXI and FFXIV.
5. Blah blah blah, I'm probably wasting my time so keep thinking whatever you want.
Back on the topic of this thread, for my tastes the effects in the alpha videos do look a little over the top for low level abilities but I don't see anything too crazy. A little tweaking would help but I'll reserve further criticism until I see them ingame in Beta.
