Considering FFXI till FFXIV 2.0

I have planned to try FF XI while waiting ARR (mind you I never play XI), I already bought the cd-key, and play the trial account for few hours...but something good comes up after then...oh well :p

I really wanna know what server some of you are playing on because all these bright shiny stories is not what Im experiencing at all. I am on Asura and most the server is exclusive to their ls and you cannot get a ls that lasts more than a week or is horribly a fail and cannot get the simplist things done because they burned up their jobs and have no idea how to play them. The few all mighty ls out there will /sh to fill positions but wont even bother to respond half the time and make you feel like crap if you arent geared to the teeth or are new to a fight/event and have any questions at all. These ppl are also the ones that check you and then harass you in /t about your gear "you need to upgrade that +1 noob" "why would you play that job its stupid" "derp, that weapon is a waste of time"

Most lvling 30-75+ is done via rmt fc pts, there are vw /sh but for qilin mostly and those are dying off. Empys are mostly solo'd due to so many ppl having +2 gear already and the fact that alot of the +2 gear has been rendered non-essential by vw, nni, relic+2 or other such gear. I have been working on the twashtar and cannot get pts together for glavoid, itz and the other I cannot remember now since the ki are not the easiest to get and you have mega compitition from soloists and duo boxers as well as the very occasional pt. NNI you cannot get into unless you have the most prime gear, empy 90+ and if your sch 450+ enfeebling magic. Anyone who does meebles only runs the last one repeatedly. Every endgame seems to need an almighty empy or gtfo.

I actually went to gw2 cause the ffxi playerbase has gotten so bad and theres just nothing for me to do there. I cant get any help for things I need and since I dont have these things I cant get into any pts for anything else. Its a loose/loose situation.

Just a correction here so no one is running around looking for a prism staff ^^ Its called an Iridal Staff and the hq version is called a Chatoyant. Just wanted to clear that up so your not going "where the heck is that prism staff!"

Do not be fooled tho, althought this staff is a combo of all the elemental staffs it does NOT have all the traits of an elemental staff. For instance there is no reduced damage like the earth/terra staff nor is there a +ratt as there is on fire/vulcans. So each staff is still used for certain purposes but if you want a staff for nuking or healing at 51 or smn perpet cost this is what to get but its not good for something like rng/cor who wants the ratt bonus

The reason that people want a certain amount of gear or experience in pugs is because its usually needed to be successful. If you don't have temp items and atmacites for VW along with a good weapon you won't be too useful to the group.

When people make groups to get lower level VW clears for temps and Key items they usually don't have a high gear requirement to get in.

I'm considering FFXI over FFXIV ^^ Just my opinion though (Bring on the hate!)

You forgot very specific jobs.

I have all the VW done, same with aby and what not, did all that when it was new. What Im talking about is anything outside the aby/vw easy endgame sphere. All these new neo's they are coming out with and even some of the old stuff you just cannot get into. And like I said, building an empy is more mind numbing now than ever due to no one really needing/wanting the bosses you need for them anymore, and if you dont have that empy you cannot get into pts for other things and even if you manage to get an empy and you have decent gear but not the top gear you cant get it because no one will take you in with them for a chance at it. Its a vicious cycle. I have played xi since 05 and had a wonderful ls for years who had static events multiple times a week and always had new players that we helped out. But since aby the whole mentality has changed and its gotten brutal

The most annoying thing I find about FFXI currently is most people will pay for 2 accounts dual box a meele+whm to do empyreans. You can solo it yes but its pretty slow. Kind of annoying to see dual boxers everywhere. I mean what every happened to playing with other people? There is a kind of solo everything mentality in the game for abyssea.

it's been like 5 weeks since I started XI, still enjoying it so far. ^^

SO now that I got that out of the way, a little background on myself that many others will find similar:

My first MMORPG ever was FFXI. Played it for many years all the way up until about midway in-between the time they released Level Sync and the first level cap break past 75 (so while 75 was still the highest LVL). I had been on FFXIV approximately since March of this year till the very last day and am HIGHLY (as most of you are) anticipating FFXIV 2.0.

Lately I've been trying different MMOs (Tera in particular) but it seems to not really be doing it for me. I've played WoW before inbetween FFXI and FFXIV but I have no interest of going back to that either.

From what I heard of FFXI for quite some time is that the leveling had become easy-mode and that certain jobs like Paladin lost their purpose.

Is there anyone else considering/already in the process of playing FFXI currently, and if so, would you recommend a come-back prior to FFXIV 2.0's release? Is there anything that someone that stopped playing during LV 75 cap/Level Sync release time should be aware of such as myself?

LoL SE just banned the gil sellers who do power leveling Fell Cleave parties all day. Only took them 2 years. But now I bet people will complain they can't pay some guy 400k go afk for 10 hours come back and be level 99.
