and lastly as you can see from what i said above, the prices haven't changed, but the cost to make them is certainly raising as the years go by right? so where is that cost coming out of? our content, our enjoyment, the type of content to streamline more idiots into the mmo's as well. we pay the same prices but we are paying for it either way threw not being able to play a mmo that you can enjoy for more then a few months. -

F2P MMOs already are potentially far more profitable than P2P MMOs. The thing is, not every MMO is ideal for it, nor would every MMO benefit from it. Nor is every MMO developer interested in that model.Quote:

They already have, and continue to, ask people to pay monthly - quite successfully at that. FFXI has been P2P for 10 years and continues to be P2P. FFXIV reactivated subs almost a year ago now, and the playerbase actually increased during that period. They have people eagerly awaiting to resume paying them a monthly sub with ARR.
Are you just being willfully ignorant? Intellectually dishonest? I can't fathom how you could be at all aware of FFXI's history and XIV's recent history regarding subs and still make a remark like that...
Although maybe your next paragraph of pre-emptive back-pedaling will clear it up...

Also, it's not a matter of SE "getting away with it". You make it sound like they're trying to pull some kind of scam on their players.
It's quite simple: SE develops and releases a product that includes an on-going monthly service. They require $14 a month to subscribe to the service. People find the game well worth that cost, and so they pay it. Those who don't find it worth the cost, don't subscribe, don't pay, and simply don't play the game.
It's a simple, straight-forward business transaction. No one's "getting away with" anything. -

i rather pay my sub and pay for future expansions then i get everything in that for free. i dont wanna keep paying for little things i could get for free on a sub.
i can already see it. new jobs want to play ninja well its $10 but first you have to buy the class for $10, well you need the quest for both $10. new raids normal mode $10 each, hard mode $10 each but must have normal mode first. relic $100 each. and so on.
age of conan its $80 for a set of equipiment thats crazy and people buy it -

I have a Runescape account, and it's active to this day. I could log in and play it right now if I wanted to. I haven't touched it in well over a year. So, while it counts as an "active account", it's not an actively played account - which makes a big difference.
I have a Runes of Magic account. Haven't touched that game in, geeze... almost 3 years. I tried it back when it first launched. My account is still considered "active", and is certainly included when that game's "active account" numbers are cited as well.
This is why I take F2P "active account" numbers with a huge grain of salt. Same goes for B2P games like GW1 and GW2, since those accounts are technically always active once they're registered as well.
When a F2P developer comes out and says "we have X many active accounts, of which Y many are actively played as of -recent date here-", I'll put stock in what they're saying. 'til then, it's just disingenuous spin-doctoring of numbers. -

First for me i play some free to play game ..and i know some friends in Rappelz who spend 1000$ in a month just for items that will fails easely. I don't like the style of F2P cos not everyone can spend 50$ or 100$ in cashshop for items and those who can sell it so high in AH. So to get one you need to farm for it alot and alot but when you search the spot to farm items you know you'll get alot of money with there one of those Cashshop buyer with high stat armo farming the spot to make more game money. So for me F2P seperate player for the rich and the poor and i hate it. I prefer Pay to play and we got chance to get the item by playing the game normaly doing party dungeon to get the item we want to wear.
PS. i got many friends who bought the diablo3 collection and we still play it -

XI has been a huge decline, the P2P model is not staying because its successful for XI, its staying because they choose to keep it, the reason for that you will never know, its just their choice. XIV's reason was to "Regain some money", but its not exactly buying them skyscrapers is it, with a insane amount of decline in players its a different scenario.
Just as much as they have "people eagaly awaiting to pay a monthly sub" they ALSO have just as much people wanting it to be free, or "checking it out while its free". Not EVERYONE wants to pay, dont ignore those who don't want to pay. There is just as much of them. (the 500k+ to ~20k subs proves people wont pay for what 1.0 was lol).
I am not even going to bother replying to the rest of your nonsense because you are clearly very angry with me and I dont want to frustrate you more so that you put words in my mouth and dont realise what I am saying, because clearly if you had 2 braincells you would know I am not saying "SE can get away with things - like its a scam", when infact I clearly said XIV will do what XIV wants, SE will make this Pay 2 Play if they want to, even if it has 2 people playing the game if they way P2P they will have it P2P.
But to even think for a second that if it goes free that SE will some how reduce the quality of the game is just absured and infact insults the developers. 1.0 failures and this whole "Rehaul" and "constant patching during the rehaul" proves that no matter what SE do their absolute fullest to provide a great game no matter the outcome or playerbase, so people going "oh no dont make it free it will be shit" and "i will pay for good quality!", your money doesn't place a state of development quality, everything that is FFXIV fully proves that statement. 1.0 lots of money = shite, 2.0 no money = probably epic....
This thread clearly shows a fear of free being crap and money demanding because that is what the free 2 play industry was originally all about. -
