You don't need emotes to role-play. If I wanted to role-play in a chat room, I'd log into AOL. This, however, is more than just a chat room.

I use my own imagination all the time when I play this. I have to imagine my character having a good time, because I cannot portray that by using the emotes (the things set up to do just that). Crazy how these things work.

I'll just have to make a new character when A Realm Reborn launches who is just a Tax Accountant. That way, he'll fit right in to the boring world that outlawed fun at the login screen.

Good god... When people ask why I don't play WoW, I can now point to these videos as a reason.

I'm not one for starting issues on the forums, but this topic is so tired...What's more exhausting is when people don't search the forums for past topics that's already exist. And what is most aggravating is when people do not want to accept what the majority thinks and create another thread just to push their request or complaint through to the top.

I realize we are bored with no XIV at this time, but c'mon. Now that you have all the time in the world you can use the SEARCH function and contribute to older threads. Kthnx.

Well, see, for many around here that's fine. So long as it's in WoW or some other MMO of that mold, it's A-Okay.

It's only an issue if it was in FFXI.. In that case you're clearly trying to turn XIV it into FFXI 2.0 and must be silenced at once.

You should probably chill out if that really does exhaust and aggravate you. You know what my options were? Revive an old thread and get comments about how I should just create my own topic or create my own topic and get comments about how I should revive old threads. I chose the latter. It's not like there are 4 topics about it on the first page and I chose to make a new one.

I didn't do this because I "do not want to accept what the majority thinks and create another thread just to push my request or complaint through to the top". I created this thread as a lighthearted request for more lively dance emotes. That's it. Now I suggest you either actually contribute something to this discussion or ignore me and/or the thread.

Right. You're incapable of RP'ing without having specific emotes. We already established that last time. To be more on point, though, what I'm getting at, is that you find it difficult (apparently) to RP with what's already in the game. You seem to require specific emotes to be added before you feel you can do so successfully.

I say you're sorely mistaken and not really thinking creatively if you feel that way. If you can not come up with some fun and interesting emotes in FFXIV with the long list they already have then, I repeat, you need to work on your imagination.

Here's a hint: the 'motion' flag goes a long way. It opens any given emote up to be whatever it resembles to you. With the right accompanying text/dialog and perhaps an accompanying emote or two, it can go quite a long way.

In FFXI, I had several set up. One for my character sneezing which involved /fume and /cry using the /motion flag. I then added in my own flavor text and dialog to give it personality. You'd be amazed how many times people said "bless you!" in response. One time, someone nearby went "WTF! Stop sneezing on me!" and moved away.

I had another where I would go up, /kneel down, tie someone's shoe-laces together, stand up, /point at them and /laugh.

I had another where my character would step in Chocobo dung using other /emotes.

I had several involving the Mithra /panic emote.

I gave my character a bit of a mischievous/prankster type personality, so most of my emotes revolved around that.

I had an absolute blast playing my character in XI, and others would have fun getting in on the antics as well. I've had a good deal of fun in XIV with similar little touches, though I haven't gotten quite as elaborate with them yet.

You might have seen the "taru dance" that got around in XI. People playing Tarus would chain together specific emotes in a specific order, turning 5 or 6 separate emotes into one extended dance routine.

I had a random "side character" that I didn't use emotes for at all, beyond /poke. I would just go up to random people and start asking if they were my daddy or mommy.. I'd start asking awkward questions, etc... You'd be amazed how often people played along. Many times I did it to people I knew.. and they had no idea it was me, until I told them later.

And, so I'll repeat... with some imagination and initiative, you have tons of possibilities to work with and can have plenty of fun.

The only thing limiting your fun is not the lack of more specific /emotes. It's you.

And you could actually have quite a lot of fun with that. Who says he has to be a boring tax accountant? Give him a unique personality, some interesting/funny quirks... some various routines he does, some catch phrases, etc.

Look at Hildibrand. He could be a really boring character if he were "just a private investigator". But what did SE do? They used like, 2 or 3 stock emotes that every character has access to, gave him a funny/zany/goofy personality and voila... you have one of the more memorable characters in the game.

If you are looking to create a character that's unique, interesting and fun to role-play, you have everything you need at the tip of your fingers. All you need imagination, creativity and some time in the macro editor.

And finally, those remarks about "fun being outlawed" and such are seriously not helping your case, at all. It's only making you look increasingly obstinate.

I've made due this entire time with what's available to me, and I'll make due in A Realm Reborn. I'm well aware that nothing I actually want to be added will be, because frankly, it's unrealistic.

I'm mostly just ranting because the Roegadyn emotes all make the race look like they're clumsy idiots. It's the only race I want to play as, so I have to suck it up. My crap is just wishful thinking.

And for the record, I felt the same way with Galka in FFXI, yet I played it for 6+ years. I can get past this stuff, but I can still want them to be different.
