I think new player specific servers have more to do with the fact that no one has every craft at level 50, and less to do with how much gil is circulating. It makes a huge difference.
QFT.
This bums me out and I hope SE reconsiders as there is no need for this, other than an attempt to unnecessarily appease people who are illogically worried about the economy.
This won't help new players. New players benefit from having experienced players around to help with all sorts of things. And it won't benefit Legacy players - who benefit both from having new players to help and re-experience things with, but also with new players with whom they can party and level unleveled classes.
The goal should be freedom to choose servers. That way (like the economy) we will see more of a leveling effect where each server gets a similar amount of new players and legacy players, a similar amount of gil in circulation, and a similar balance of classes and class levels in play.
Also, by allowing the freedom to choose servers to all players, it allows each players (and hence the community as a whole) to choose what it thinks it best/most fun for him/her. Like the geographic server issue, just let people choose and the masses will decide.
That benefits the community far more than artificial attempts to manage the distributions.
Didn't they say they would open the servers to existing characters later? Just play a new character with them while the new server stabilizes and once they open it up for world transfers move then.
Also, if content finder is going to be cross server there might be a way to play your current character with your friends if they fail to get on your server.
Ugh, this is the "regional servers" debate all over again... "why am I limited to x-thing or y-thing? I don't like it. I don't want it! Why! Why! Why!"
Why? Because they said so. Honestly even if that response makes about as much sense as when our moms used it when we were six, it still is just as valid an answer as any. They make the calls, we play the game. Feedback is cool, even negative feedback, but at the end of the day I put some faith in this new team behind the new FFXIV to make the right decisions. Maybe it's hard for people to do that because of the obvious belly-flop FFXIV did the first time around, but really you have two choices: Trust, or get anxious about everything and turn mole hills into mountains.
I really don't need to waste space in my head with the latter, so the former it is. Whatever their reasoning is, that's what they're doing and I'm willing to see how that goes. I've no issues staying with an existing server whatsoever (as long as I get to pick an NA datacenter).
You guys really need to get laid or something. You are getting a new game, and keeping all of your crap.
What difference does it make if you don't get to move to a new server right away? Just enjoy your goddamn new game.
Everyone wants to bring their riches over to a new world and dominate that world. Well that ain't happening and if it is, you'll need to pay a server transfer fee which imo is very fair to old and new players. Roll a fresh character if you want to play with your friends that badly. Good thing on my part, I have no friends so I don't have a dilemma like this.
