Honest idea for 8.0 rework: Trance gauges

Such as changing the colour/effects like riding bahamut, solar bahamut or pheonix or what abilities it uses?
Having some extra tinkering for a Trance like slotting/junctioning materia to alter some abilities could bring extra customization to them, such as using Determination on the MCH to make the 100% shield 125% or Tenacity on the Paladin to make the 30% damage mitigation to a 50%.
Could even make unique materia specially made for the Trances too, giving more options instead of just your main Trance abilities~

Well for summoner for example its trance could be summoning alexander, would be nice we could decide who that summon is like anima instead, or white mages w/e they get instead of holy we customize it to be elemental or necromancy

Than a completely redundancy that's equally dysfunctional as the existing system (gets drained, requires 2/4/8)? Yes.

Ideally, I'd reskin LB1 and 2 more similarly to LB3, maybe even give a bit more reason for the Monk to use it instead of the Samurai, etc., beyond just who's about to burst harder rotationally / who suffers more from drift, but even just the above basic fixes would go a huge way.

This reads like "But shooting you in the foot will hurt you less than my shooting you in the stomach" after someone's requested not to be shot. I don't want either one.

I don't want extra buttons nor my bar screwed Dancer-steps or vehicle-replacement style nor to lose access to my class kit for some duration just to go a super-sayen mode that's inherently less interesting than my standard kit for having lost access to all but 3-6 skills, even if new, over that time.

Honestly I wouldn't mind, even if it most likely will drift our rotation. Maybe it won't be useful in high end content which requires strict rotation, but it will be fun to use when doing msq/casual content. So yeah, why not.

I think a lot of buttons should just be combined, I mean like for example on dark knight Hardslash, strike, and Soul Eater could just be one button. There is little reason to not just make them one button, since you the combo is always 1 2 3 no reason to not just make that one button that changes after each move, same goes for the aoes unleash/Stalwart Soul. These "combo skills/spells" also apply in other jobs. They should be combined into a single button, which can lead to those combos being expanded and still only require one button. I mean in some job cases like monk you would need the combo to be a two-button setup since flank and rear bonus but still saves alot, its not like the combos are that "skillfull" to use anyways.

Like dark knight trance could just be another combo but more magic align, with dark spell casting combo that just takes one button but is like 12 abilitys for example

Indeed, its still odd that they have the "Chain combo" buttons in PvP, but not for normal content. That would drastically reduce the button bloat for almost all jobs apart from some casters and healers.
That would then free up space for jobs to have their extra skills be more readily available.

So you'd rather change the LB itself to be a different look to the jobs for 1 and 2 and/or give them different functions instead of "Melee dps does 3000 potency single target" etc? Such as the monk doing one thing, but the samurai doing another?

Except the trances would still have several of your normal skills and class kit, simply upgraded to a better version.
A Dark Knight would still have their shadows, drains, defences and such. DPS would still have their attacks and stances. Casters and healers will still have their kits while being primarily instant cast.
Besides, nothing is forcing you to use the Trance gauge. It is just another addition to each job to give them extra flavor and use apart from just basic role kits. Just as people can do an entire dungeon or trial without using the LB, you can go a whole dungeon without wanting or needing to use your Trance.

Well considering how every job has a 60s and 120s burst, it would be used in the downtime between heavy hitting moments where you'd be stuck doing your 1,2,3 combo until the next 30s ability pops.
But yeah it would reduce your rotations and normal gauge filling such as the MCH battery and heat or the Dark Knight's blood gauge.
You could have it so that upon finishing your Trance, some gauges are recharged. Or have it so some abilities in your Trance are charging your gauges normally~

Because pvp isn't about playing a sheet of music with your instrument (job). The reason pve keeps combos and all those bloated buttons is precisely because "playing piano" is part of the design. It's all about the tactile feel and memorization, the same way you have to use different combos in a fighting game instead of pressing a single button. The design objectives are completely different sadly.

And I'm not saying that as someone that enjoys it... Far from it.

Yes. I'd rather fix and flesh out what we have (Limit Breaks) than add another half-assed version (Trances) atop it.

That could just be purely cosmetic differences, something like each carrying a different bit of utility across each level of the LB, or even each altogether different kinds of effects (Monk goes Rock Lee or w/e).

Doesn't really matter too much; the main thing is just allowing LBs levels at 1/2/5 instead of 2/4/8, not losing wasting progression upon someone's disconnect, and perhaps trimming the uptime cost a little bit so as not to feel like a damage loss if your top DPS is the one to use it.

I'd far rather just activate a buff that augments my skills thereafter without the awkward Vehicle Hotbar BS.

If it has a performance advantage (i.e., any value enough to risk rotational desync for), yes, that obliges us to use it.
