I think FFXIV should be more political actually

well I think like other then shb most expension are political in a way... wait no even shb is I just think they have a easier time with those over the "vacation" we got.


I don't think a full political expension would be good but somewhat a retourn to the core because well arr is kinda not to light hearted. first dungeon is legit about sex slave that we have to save them the garlean are literally racist and think eorzea is a land of mindless savages.


Heavenward is a war with the religion in itself. the people treating outside like legit shit even murder. still political but with a religion.

stormblood is literally a civil war that want far then a genocidal maniac took the power. also political.


Shb is a war against the warden that are controlled be eulmore and the dude literally think his better then anyone else. also political.

Endwalker is asking the gouvernement help and helping them with also helping the garlean in theyre homeland because and the genocidal maniac is back. literally still political to.


dawntrail was supposed to be a vacation and well again forced political but this time it just well was bad overall like the game is filled with that just in the earlier day they took way more risk and I miss that time

All art is inherently political, it just varies in how openly. Just because you choose to stick your head in the sand or don't consider something "political" if you agree with it doesn't mean it's not there.

I've said before, I feel like that one scene of him releasing Valigarmanda is the "odd one out" that might have gotten written as something else, but then for some reason it was rewritten to make him look more villainous without reviewing what it did to the surrounding story.

Other scenes suggest that Sareel Ja plans to manipulate Bakool Ja Ja into being useful to his goals, which implies that Bakool didn't get the idea to release Valigarmanda on his own but was talked into it. Given that context - along with what we later learn about his actual situation - it would make more sense if he'd been talked into releasing it in the belief he could defeat it and prove himself the worthy ruler despite failing in the competition, especially since he's rather desperate by that point. So if he did that and failed miserably at the defeating part, we'd still end up in the same position of having to track it down and fight it but wouldn't have Bakool being evil for no good reason.

Following your logic, ARR would be a grounded adventure, because the first half has you dealing with local threats, such as Bandits, monsters, pirates, etc... whom doesn't have any big goals outside the areas they're in. However, would that make ARR a grounded adventure and nothing else? Absolutely no. Rather, it's a sign of storytelling where multiple aspects merge and mesh together to form a story you enjoy reading and experiencing.

That being said, do we have political expansions? Yes, we do. Heavenward is a great example because it leans heavily towards it, and what our actions as the player and characters would do to the fate of an entire nation's culture, history, and future. Nevertheless, the same cannot be said about Stormblood, because while it still leans towards the Politics, it leans ever heavier towards Military and War (Both are still closely tied, but the difference is still there and not to be confused with each other)

Both ShB and EW in retrospect, lean towards Apocalyptic themes than they do towards Political themes, and just because some nations are involved, or because a ruler of a city is bad, doesn't automatically turn them into full-fledged political storylines and nothing else. That's a narrow-minded perspective.

Still, those stories were enjoyed (in varying degrees) not because of the themes, but because the storywriting itself was good, and that contributed greatly into the overall enjoyment. DT is an example where a theme exists (Politics in this case), but it's not enjoyed, not because the theme is bad, but because the storywriting is bad, and that contributed greatly to the overall dissatisfaction, partially because it was a forced theme and not one that should have been incorporated organically into the story.

Unfortunately, while some will want to disagree with these sentiments, both the writers and some (but not all) readers and players have an issue where they want to involve politics in the story or perceive it to have politics just so that it could meet the 'Intricate' criteria. As if entertaining and intricate stories and games cannot be told or played without the involvement of politics. Many of the side content in this game don't have that much involvement in politics, yet they're still entertaining and enjoyed by many. While I don't have an issue with a political story if the storywriting is good, it is a shame to just focus on one spectrum and not explore basically anything else within the MSQ to have it on a larger scale.

Just because you think something is political, doesn't magically make it political. Maybe you need to pull your head out of that hole you dug in the sands without knowing, and see the world in its much wider spectrum than forever chaining yourself to the political lens and fantasies just so that others and yourself can think you're more mature when in reality you're not.

Bakool Ja Ja's unearned sudden 180 is just another one of those really "miss the mark" moments of Dawntrail writing, where they are literally asking you to act dumb and shut out all information you've been given so far and just trust them that he is good now, because the music and plot says so. It's really really reaaaaally bad writing. Like compare that to Fordola and how they handled her.
