Unironically yes. FFXI is a much, much better MMO than FFXIV is in pretty much every aspect aside from graphics.

You will never see a cutscene in FFXIV as animated as this.

FFXI really hit its stride in CoP and esp WotG when it came to cs. They did some amazing things and yet I remember ppl here freaking out when Thancred sat himself down in a chair and grabbed a drink. If they only knew.... lol

To be fair though, after replaying FFXI with a fresh character during this lull we are having, I realized I had forgotten just how much much better written FFXI is. Not to mention how much personality the characters had, esp in comparison.

Yeah, that's the thing that really gets me lol. People rave about how good FFXIV's story is, they really need to experience FFXI's.

They did so many things better. Just look at Blue Mage. From lore to gameplay it is a chef's kiss. Here we get a mediocre side show that can't even participate in normal content. It's like, what happened to that talent?

I like the glam. It's very FF Type-0 reminiscent.

Well you also have to remember the same development team for FFXI is the one who gave us 1.0 so it's not like they always produce gold.

You mean the one when the director got a lil too big for his britches and decided to stop listening to the alpha/beta testers and other ppl on his team or in the company and just did things the way he saw fit and the way he thought was fun instead of taking feedback from literally any source into consideration. You're hyped for the reward, not the event.
These events are terrible and have been for a while.
The last good idea they had was that valentines dungeon where you and a partner go through it together, more like that and less pointless fetch quests
