The real reason there are even subscribers in 2024

Hacks have always been around, but never before have they been as prominent as they are now
At this point in the game, people are so dependent on them- whether for advantage or not, people have made hacking the game part of their core "reason" to play
I wonder just how heavy of a subscription hit XIV will get if they ever implement even the most basic protection

Go to limsa- scratch that, anywhere and read peoples search comments and understand what workaround terms they're putting on display
Whether you're ignorant of it or not, this is happening now

It's not the game nor the community it was in ARR. It's a hack game.

you really don't like that people erp or just in general find the game fun in ways you don't. I have no stake, no reason to try and twist your words—that really is genuinely what it seems like your beef is. I have fun, I rp with friends, I do casual content, I do roulettes with my partner. There's plenty here for someone to enjoy. ^^;;

Honestly, I find it super cool that people put enough thought into their characters to take part in RP.

I have friends on twitter that do it, and the amount of thought they put into their characters is astronomical. It's a beautiful thing.

I try answering little WoL questions that come along from time to time on my TL, but I've never really put serious thought into who or what my character is. So I just channel it as a more unchained, uninhibited, and extreme version of myself when I answer those questions.

Im subbed because I enjoy getting achievements I didn't have and catching up on some crafting ones while I play a game on the side, waiting for things I want to do to pop up in PF or stuff like S ranks. I also just generally enjoy helping people complete old content and catching up. I also just ... Generally like existing in the game world. Like, not even RPing, just chilling.

Sorry if I don't fit whatever narrative you're trying to push here.

Not everyone does this, but I won't deny that there's a lot of people that only use this game for a dress up simulator/place to erp. Some days I kinda feel out of place because I *don't* mod and quite enjoy how my character looks with no mods.

It isn't because it's a video game, or because it's an MMO. It's not even a good RPG anymore. Go play Divinity Original Sin 1&2 or Baldur's Gate III if you actually want to play a good RPG. Let's all be honest. The reason why people are even "playing" FF14 in 2024 isn't because people are "playing" the game. It's because FF14 has the best suite of third party, ToS-violating tools that help you look your best in screenshots. Or the best in different custom poses. Or the best while they're all unequipped and you're doing gods know what down there while staring at those unequipped characters.

It's also because FF14 has the best drama. Desolance? Xeno? Arthars? Healer strike? Wuk Lamat? Need I go on? It's always a fun time to be in the FF14 community because every other day some human interest story will organically pop up that lets people get a huge whiff of what absolute human depravity looks like.

And it's also because you can find your e-girl or e-boy on some steamy Discord and get dating while sitting on each other's lap (both catgirl ofc) on the Limsa Lominsa Lower Deck Plaza bench under a tree right to the left of the marketboard. But really it's all just Discord and using FF14 to heat up your room.

Who actually subscribes to FF14 for a video game after all?

Guild Wars 2 does that infinitely better while still also having a gameplay loop. But hey, I guess it doesn't have clubs or sex venues.
