Dawntrail is the first expansion where I started skipping cutscenes. The story is bad

The problem with the story is that it came off as someone who wanted to write specifically the climax and didn't have any interest in the warm up. Also, a big problem with the entire thing is that Wuk Lamat felt like she needed to learn and train more than take a test of succession. When someone is taking a test, the idea is that they already have the needed qualities to qualify for the test, of which Wuk Lamat did not display at all in a good capacity. And then when we got to later points in the story her dialog fell flat and hollow.

Just contrast the entire thing involving Wuk Lamat with Hien: The man was living in a rough and tumble place and had time to learn about the different tribes, as well as let life lessons rub off on him, far ahead of when we entered the instance to go get a Yol. There just wasn't any time for Wuk Lamat to get to understand anyone in this. This is why the end felt so painfully forced because the supposed big main character that had growth had none, and the author wanted to pretend they did.

To really make this work Wuk Lamat should have been literally the tour guide and already familiar with the tribes.

Agreed.
On the trials. My biggest gripe is that the cooking one was blatant bias in her favor.
Her father was the jury, he gave her more hints then anyone else, directed her almost open to the ingredients and then had the audacity to say "she was the only one who actually tried to understand our history".
Like, how is that fair?

The Mamool Ja dude at least gave them a chance with the trial and while petty with the outcome actually gave in when Kettenramm arrived.
The PeluPelu trial was bordering on illegal help and I actually love Mablu. Zoral Ja aced that one and the narrative was (yes he is good but you are actually far more wholesome uwu".

Wuk lamat was always meant to win. They tried to paint her as the underdog but she instantly became the favourite.

Koana 100% demonstrated why he was the better Dawnservant when he gave up his personal ambition to compromise for the best possible option for his nation given the remaining alternatives. Because he also knew Wuk Lamat wouldn't have the brains or the heart to be the one to do it for the greater good.

I can't take it seriously anyone thought Wuk Lamat would be a good Dawnservant - Her not being the one to sacrifice her keystones proves it. If she actually had her one supposed merit, caring about the people of Tural more than anyone, then why isn't she the one giving up a personal win to ensure peace for them? Because it's so blatantly obvious by now Koana is just as peaceful a ruler as she is.

Dawntrail is not only the worst expansion in all of Final Fantasy history, it's insulting. I had to literally force myself to suffer through it. I also ultimately skipped everything. I will never play any of it again on any other character. I have only loathing and contempt for it.

I actually created a new chat tab for NPC dialogue, so I could spam through the actual dialogue, and read it later, without Llama Tea's ear shattering "SPEEEEEEN".

FFXIV was all about story first gameplay second..

but man the story is suck and game play still suck

It was better then Stormblood and ARR. I liked it. It was no Shadowbringers, but it was fun. I liked that we took a back seat and fostered someone elses spirit for once. Perhaps there were maybe too maybe cutscenes in the grand scheme of things, but over all, I liked it. And I look forward to doing it again on my alt in a few months.

I didn't skip through it on my main. But I am doing that on my alts.

A friend gifted it to me and I played it through the end.

I just finished the final trial, and at this point, I can confidently say - we are no longer the warrior of light, the savior of the star. Wuk Lamat has singlehandedly proven she's just better than us in every way, after literally and figuratively forcing her way into the fight.

I can't be bothered to continue playing anymore. All my accomplishments and efforts have been rendered pointless by this character, who is just straight up better than and more important than the WoL in every way.

are you for real? Getting all whiny and upset because you aren't the center of attention 24/7? You know the character we are is supposed be mentoring others, right? We have been to the edge of the universe and back, we are taking a goddamn step back and fostering the souls of others. Everyone around could tell we shouldn't be messed with. Constantly making comments about how scary we are even if they don't know us.
If that makes you want to quit playing then bye bye. No one will miss you. You've honestly missed the point of the story from the very beginning of the game.
