I love Snow zones i want one in XIV so badly
Favorite type of zone: honestly, something like Mor Dhona or Coerthas (though I get the feeling I'd like them even better if I could turn off the cut-out looking minimap), but with a bit more to do.
I'd like to see some temple ruins in the Black Shroud, preferably surrounded by the current Black Shroud appearance. Within places that are equally labyrinth-like, I'd really enjoy it if the zones were made just a little more pathable (little places you could pull yourself up or jump onto and go through a small otherwise hidden path). Generally more things that retain its feel as a labyrinth but don't have you running 200 yalms just to move over 50 all the time. Add complexity, but a bit less irritation.
In Thanalan, more diversity, and I really want something a little more... sandy. The arid look feels nicely real, but plenty of other types of scenery can do the same while lending some variance.
Snowy zones would be great. Some small islands off the shore of Limsa would also be great. Underwater ruins, wonderful.
After playing all kinds of different mmos over they years I'm convinced that every kind of zone can be awesome if done properly. With that said my favorite zones are always the ones out of the ordinary. Such as:
Alien like forests with lots and lots of color.
Ancient ruins, the ruins have to climable.
Creepy swamps with a halloween theme.
Huge buildings with a since of scale.
Extremely rocky deserts.
All of these zones have to be flooded with stuff. The forest zones needs to be thick with trees, ruins need to litter the ground, swamps need to be full of all sorts of nasty things, etc... I don't like big open zones without things in them. And they need to be thought of as a piece of the land instead of made for a video game.
The one zone I hate are lava zones.
- Floating continent (FFVI, Lufia and the Fortress of Doom)
- Ice Palace of some sort (FFIV) (on the moon, going to final boss)
- Tower of Babil (FFIV)
- Epic Space battlefield (Star Ocean, Til The End of Time, or fighting Zeromus in FFIV)
- Waterfall (FFVI)
- Empire Fortress headquarters (FFVI - Vector)
- Underground realm (FFIV)
- 100 floor dungeon (Lufia & Lufia II)
- Dedicated Casino or game area for side games (Lufia & Lufia II, FFVII Golden Saucer)
- Perhaps a realm of the primals? (kind of like in FFVI where you go into the world of Espers via portal)
I can think of so much more! :)
I was watching Adventure Time and playing Xenoblade when I realized... I really like the idea of adventuring the innards of gigantic beasts.
now this is some old school stuff, me like ( ^.^)b
FFVI is the GOD of FF games. (not to mention FF5 ofc)
I hope they bring back some of the older elements from the really old FF games so new players who never played them can enjoy how cool things used to be, but in a new fahsion.
Oh yea, now we're talking. Along with the original or a spruced up original soundtrack. Loved the Veldt theme music.
I would like to see a forest swamp hybrid, a bit of slow transition for the higher ground and lower ground. Most of the time its all one or all another. What i'd really like to see is some differences and variation within a single zone. But we'll see
I'm a huge fan of Mor Dhona and Coerthas. They were the best designed zones from day 1. It's really too bad they went underused.
I'll add support for a Zi'tah type zone of Lufaise Meadows.
