racism in FFXIV

I did have one experience in a O8s PF where a fem miqote started to """seduce me""" to get AST cards from me. They then insisted on trying to get in my pants later and insisted on the "black" part. (because I was playing a dark-skinned roe at the time.) I told them that they made me pretty uncomfortable and that I left that group a few pulls after that.
To be frank, that was hardly racism, because they probably would've done that with anyone else. They were just REALLY weird about the -black- part, and that specifically would be racism, pretty much. I reported them, and moved on.

There are a few times where some linkshells and FC mates didn't expect me to be black for some reason. That led to really awkward conversations, but really? In about 7 years of active play, I never had any worse encounter than the one I have described.

But let's be serious for a moment. The type of human you play in 14 is just stereotypes and at best, discrimination based on memes. No one should, nor is going to dismiss you from a party solely because you're playing a male Au Ra or a Lalafell.

If you ever got dismissed from getting a job interview or renting an appartement because your name sounded too "ethnic", that your hair is too "messy" for it to be acceptable in your workplace or getting racially profiled in-game by a GM or something, yeah, that would be racism. Otherwise, that is just discrimination.

you can have them all you want. but if i really felt that way why would i have originally said that. also nobody else in the game perpetuates this. so where would i even be pulling it from. ive had 5 hours of sleep and a lot of planning to do irl. stupid stuff like that is where it can effect you

Adult activities are the cornerstone of Final Fantasy XIV in 2023, so a lot of people only associate a person's race with how they like to ERP. Male Au Ra are aggressive groomers, but feminine-presenting Miqo'te are not (despite having the same sex organs). Lalafells are pedophiles because, as this is FFXIV, people are thinking about sex, and how does that work with lalafells? Other MMOs have minor issues (Vulpera being furbait) but they do not overly determine your personality based on your race like in FFXIV. FFXIV is more of a lifestyle product than a game anyway, so the race you choose could wind up determining your friends and how well you enjoy FFXIV.

Why do people even bother playing as male characters, anyway?
