Lending my support to this thread! My darker skinned alts are consistently either washed out or completely invisible--SE needs to adapt their lighting to fit all skin tones.

Seeing so much optimism really warms me having these problems more often than not, illumination specially on gposes being a bit messy
Totally looking forward to it and this thread is really heart welcoming
Please!! When playing thru Stormblood the scene with Raubahn in the Royal Gardens was really sad, you couldn't see either of us at all :/ it would go so far towards assuaging the worries of people who play dark-skinned characters, who have already had to deal with numerous issues that don't impact paler characters, to at least show previews of the new lighting. And, while you're at it, the lip glare for darker-skinned characters in environments with limited lighting (not diffuse lighting) is really obnoxious, so I hope the lighting changes fix that too.
My WoL has quite dark skin and especially in Ultima Thule, I have trouble seeing her unless her glowing weapon is out... Please give some love to the darker-skinned WoLs and help us with this lighting issue!
I feel this in my bones! All the UT examples are exemplar of the issue, but Pandaemonium was just as bad for dark-skinned characters, and that whole questline featured dark-skinned NPCs! Trying to find my dark-skinned lalafell in any Pandy or UT story sequence was a lesson in frustration.
I would really love to see more examples of darker-skinned characters in the preview builds, and not just in bright lighting.
Agreed so much with this post.
Ultima Thule is one of my most favorite maps in the entire game, however, my character is almost invisible on it without lighting minions and light adjustments in gpose. This is especially apparent in cutscenes, which in Ultima Thule, you can argue that they are some of the most impactful cutscenes in the game. Imagine witnessing something emotionally gripping, then the camera cuts to your character, and you cannot see the emotion in their face very clearly at all.

YES especially in Endwalker which seems to have a lot of dark environs this problem seems to be the worst. It brings to mind how todays movies are sometimes just too dark and you don't have to make the set dark in order to bring across that the place is dark!

(Saddest scene alive. Local Elezen can't even see his boyfriend.)
I would also like to say that having a character creator with a neutral background would help a lot because the light sources in the CC are just plain awful.
F'ceeshe's skin in the Limsa background is fine but in the actual palette his skin color is sort of washed out and does not accurately display what his skin will look like in game.

adding my voice to the thread, as someone with a dark-skinned viera who blends into dark environments :(
two examples, using just ambient lighting + a reshade preset that... only kinda helps brighten things up lol

it's not the hugest deal in gpose, but even the lighting there can make my girl look a bit washed out
It's a bit scary that none of the previews so far have shown how dark-skinned characters will look at all :( They're clearly adjusting right now based on feedback to the previews shown, so it's disheartening that minor aspects of the faces are getting more love than skin tones...
I agree with this, and we also need example of female xaela too.
