That's the initial release date for that expansion, coincidentally almost exactly eleven years ago.
Once again, the concerns are being directed at the present day situation in FFXIV.

Nobody is commenting on expansion releases. Those of us who experienced WoW patch timelines back in the day are commiserating about the length and how it may have affected our ability to be content with longer patch timelines. XIV's have never bothered me because I experienced both WoW and EverQuest patch timelines.
They said summer, so one would expect August at the latest. Since Square usually does push these as late as they can go, I'd just assume the last week of August. But given the bizarre hesitancy when he said it originally, I wouldn't be surprised if we weren't waiting until September. Well, I say we. But I don't mean me.
One must wonder what fate will befall this game during the interim. If everyone leaves to play other games, will there be anyone left in this game to play with? It's doubtful. But it is what it is. In either case, I'm glad we've been able to establish that a 7-9 month wait time of 0 content in a subscription game is fine because somebody somewhere has had it worse in another game entirely.
My money is on the usual late June for early access and July for release. Anything more than 6 months wait is going to be deadly to subs. As it is now, it’s dangerously long vs the old 4 month wait. Then early December and late January for 8.0 in 2027. Remember, expansions are now 2.5 years and not 2 years due to the extra long patch cycles.
I get why people are complaining, but we all knew this was happening before they even announced it. I'm really not sure what to do at this point.
Talk about hyperbole. The probability of it being October 2024 is miniscule since the current launch window is Summer which uh... guess what, that ends in September. Now of course something could happen and cause them to delay, but considering the fall out from EW's delay I doubt they will go that route unless absolutely necessary.
I'm hoarding some of the hard-to-get dungeon hats for my Viera, but artifacts would be a waste of space.
Artifact gear (except maybe upgraded Anemos gear) is the least worthwhile thing to be hoarding. You can repurchase it all easily, or even have it handed to you for free in the case of the 80 and 90 sets.
