Didn't really read as a rant, and most games have forums - lots of MMOs even have new player forums specifically.

OP's post was actually pretty calm.

If anything the only SUS part is someone writing down word for word rather than screenshotting, or just paraphrasing what happened from memory. Seems a bit much to claim to have ran to get a notebook and write all that out lol.

That said there is so much strange behavior here, that initially just flew by me.

That's fine, but I'm willing to give a new player the benefit of the doubt. It's hard not to be jaded by the number of alt / drama accounts here tho.

That boss works the same as the other few manor maids you would have come up against beforehand. Casting and AoE fire spell and their Dark Mist attack that as others have said is interruptable with interject by tanks or headgraze by physical range. You can as others have also said use low blow (or shield bash if a GLA/PLD) as a tank or a melee can also use theirs. A lot of experienced players will automatically stun or silence that move as it will stun you and cause some damage. Always check party chat to see if anyone has gone afk, start a ready check or just simply ask if everyone is ready. That dps was definitely being rude and reportable. If you find it odd that some replies have given your OP some side eye it's due to a lot of others posting stories just like yours where there's not a lot of information only for the rest of us to sus out that the poster was more so at fault than they had led on.

I think Ivtrix meant, a new player coming to the forum and giving a play by play drama story about something that definitely happened is a bit surprising. I had the same thought to be honest, it's all a bit too perfect of a GCBTW kind of story. But I admit, people can be cruel to others, and ffxiv is no different.

I mean you shouldn't be facing most bosses at the party or alliance. And unless the tank didn't notice people dropping like flies and wonder why that was happening or care then yeah they're being an idiot. Could the person have asked them to turn the boss around in a nice manner? Definitely.

Well, of course. All of that goes without saying, but the sprout had become main tank for the first time during that boss fight (the other tanks died), and they were insulted shortly after that, so I think it was especially harsh.

Some people take a while to learn something new, especially under pressure. I'd rather not assume they're an "idiot" right off the bat.

Ah well at least they picked up the boss and not let it ping pong around eating the dps. I would have see if they settled down and looked like they were going to face it away or not. Some newer tanks end up keeping the boss in the direction they took argo on them at. Where to me it's then up to the party or alliance to reposition as at least the tank is keeping it in one place and isn't rotating it. I can also sort of understand the other person's perspective as if they were the ones who died due to the linear tank buster or even one of the healers who was just tired of picking up people. The only thing that gets my goat in that fight is when the tank doesn't give a lot of room for people to obtain the other debuff.

Forum participation across any game is usually low, it’s usually just grouchy nerds like us coming to fling poo until we are done being bored

Yeah, the person who got upset was probably very angry, which is understandable. I'm not gonna act like I haven't gotten at least annoyed while playing with others. It's why I try to laugh it off or remind myself it's just a game and we're good.

Oh, I feel you. There have been times when I'd move to the other side of the room for that debuff, only to get killed by the boss' line attack.

Uh, assuming this story is genuine, my piece of advise: just report them. The GM in this game come down very hard on this kind of thing. That's why even it did happen to you once, it shouldn;t happen again.
