Official Hairstyle Design Contest 2023

Argh, missed submission by a minute by doing last-second tweak on the labelling! Apparently it closes when the clock ticks over to 0:59, and not open until that time and closing when the clock ticks over to :00.

I feel like that must be a clock programming error, like they say :59 but that means they're supposed to type :00 into the actual program.


Okay, so I only started it tonight and it's totally my fault, but still.

My popoto brain thought the deadline was on friday so I rushed mine within an hour and only barely got in, I even had to use the template cuz I wouldn't have had time otherwise. I wish I could've done a second entry using a Hrothy /cry

Don't worry, I drew a hrothgar as an example for one of my submissions so I gotchu homie !! (Good luck to anyone who submitted !!)

In spite of the confusing rules, I chose not to overthink and just submitted my 3 entries modelling the drawing over the offered hyur heads.

One of a style I personally want, which is more or less around the realm of what we usually get, and other two entries with styles that have very unique silhouettes. Fingers crossed!

Does anyone think they’re gonna be letting people vote again or are they just gonna pick for everyone? I heard that the last one didn’t go so great in terms of understanding the voting.

They're gonna pick themselves, like they've been doing for other contests like the armor and weapon ones. The general public has too many biases; in na and europe everyone would vote for 10 long hairstyles; in japan they would all vote for anime band-boy hairstyles.

When they leave it to the devs and "community managers" they can create a well researched report with more nuances of what would enhance the game outside of we need 100 long hairstyles. They would look at it from a brand and marketing perspective, from a demographics perspective, from a unique perspective (hairstyles types that don't currently exist in the game), etc. That's how it's supposed to work in a healthy company anyway. Not sure how heavy-handed yoship is or how much he outweighs the other considerations (departments within the company), but from what I saw in ffxvi they gave him too much control, let's hope that's not the case here, so a more balanced approach is taken.

That's fair, but I sure hope they mix it up a bit because I'd hate to see "30 flavors of bowl cuts/Karen bobs" for the next 4 years

Considering how diverse the array of weapon designs turned out to be (compared to what we have already in the game), I hope they'll try to cater to as many distinct styles as possible, especially when it comes to non-straight hairstyles.
