Balance of jobs within same role WILL mean homogenization because differences between jobs will always inevitably mean one is somewhat better than the other in some situation, and that, in turn, will make weaker jobs not meta and unaccepted. Fun is not balanced, plainly put. That's why games are often seen as 'balancing the fun away' when they are reducing amount of strong unique things and adding homogenization, it is impossible to achieve real balance without losses in uniqueness between things that are supposed to be balanced against one another.
