And again if you are levelling multiple jobs to maximise adventurer in need I think you are a bit beyond playing SGE as a pure healer

Beyond sylphie by choice players who naturally gravitate towards WHM I’m still really not seeing this group of people as anything of a significant collective

These people do exist, I was one of them. I wanted a healer for roulettes in Stormblood, since Sage didn't exist I leveled AST as my first healer just so I could skip 29 levels.

And I cruised my way to 70 by hitting random buttons. Until I did my first run of Skalla, in just enough gear to hit the minimum ilvl, with a warrior that pulled absolutely everything (in 4.0 before the warrior rework) and we promptly wiped.

The one thing I know the guy for is that he does videos where he shows what skills each class gets, and then a potential opener at each capstone (50, 60, etc) based on the skills you have at the time to show how the opener evolves over time

which means that yeh, the average watcher of his channel would be those who are learning, or looking to get into a new class and want to know where to start. Or even just people who are wanting to see how a class works at cap, before committing to it (in case they dont like the gameplay in the end)

on which note, SE really ought to let us have a place where we can 'test class at max level' so we can see if we like the gameplay before committing to levelling. Like, someone might like BLM at lower levels cos of it's proc based gameplay, but not like what it becomes at higher levels

Went and actually looked at the polls on that channel (now that I'm less tired, relatively speaking), and they're sorted by role (fair enough) so as to show 'which of the jobs in this role is the most popular'. But the issue is, I could go vote in the Melee section, and ONLY the Melee section, were that my area of expertise. Same with other roles, I could vote in only the healer one. So... similar to Ty's survey where people could vote in 'only the part they have a vested interest in'? Besides that, this is the first time I (and likely a lot of others) have even heard about this survey, in fact, some have never heard of the channel. So I guess it falls into the same problem as 'only the forums knew about the Ty survey', too focused a dataset.

Which means that all in all, whatever reasons that Ty's survey was considered scuffed and 'not reliable data' applies to this, and vice versa. The only 'real data' would be an official SE survey and we ain't getting one of those

I love this as much as people bad mouth sage ofc its the most play job, who cares if it has weaker aoe shields (cause its E diag crit with a zoe =is stronger than a crit alco even if fey illum and disspiate is used because zoe is 20% stonger on heal potency up)and even that is not so serious, HOLOS/physis 2/kera chole is whooping hp regen + migitation/shield which is all sage need and cost 0 mp. On my server of Aether that is very raid heavy it is certainly true SCH is the less played healer and the most heal combo is either whm/sage or ast/sage. If honestly sage had strong aoe shields like sch, am positive sch would not even be played at all.

It's honestly crazy to me that the last time they did any surveys for player feedback/impressions was during 1.x when yoshida initially took over and was deciding on a new direction. Post 6.0, when the first major arc of the game finished and we were looking to go in a new direction anyway feels like it would have been the perfect time to take one, so they could take it into consideration for 7.0+ stuff.

SGE just wins out over SCH because SCH is clunky, SCH still dominates SGE in AOE shields even with the holos changes because of spreadlo and because recitation can force adlo to crit while SGE just kinda hopes that their shields crit, spreadlo on the tank only using protaction is stronger than Zoe e prognosis + holos which is more CD costly for the SGE than it is the SCH and SCH also has the capacity to buff it further with dissipation and fey illumination

SCH also has more utility, totem healing is a godsend in savage, expedient is probably the one true support skill left in the game (though I’d argue curing waltz also fits the bill), eos is better at passive party healing than kardia swapping and chain stagmentation is almost as strong a buff as divination and requires 0 setup

SGE being more popular despite having functionally no upsides over SCH (about the only one is it’s healing is free and it has a very slightly stronger mana economy) is pretty much the same as why WHM is more played than AST despite being objectively worse, and that’s people don’t really love clunky jobs and when all healers feel the same anyway the differences in utility just don’t feel worth it
