We can't even get them to remove the stupid daily post limit. Why would they add a downvote function that gets abused easily?
I would prefer for them to actually moderate the freaking forum and forum ban all the people that mostly troll.
problem with reddit is that it's an echo chamber, you can make a constructed critism, if you go against the global concensus, you will be downvoted to oblivion. It's good to see what the global concensus is, but not so much to get an opposing point of view.
By the Twelve, no. We can ignore troll threads or decide to bypass the troll part and have productive conversations. Let's not give the trolls more power to cause chaos.
EHHhhhhhh.....Im already kind of iffy about "Upvotes"
Its obviously just a way to express that you agree with / Like a post....but people kind of like to use it as fuel and pretend it means they are right about something, even if they are verifiably wrong, and will weaponize it against you that "I have the more popular opinion, therefor you are wrong" just because there are X number of people that get upvotes.
Which, is kind of bad.
Downvotes can have the same effect, where if any number of people dislike a post, peoples brains will think "GASP, they must be wrong and the other person is right."
Plus anybody could press the button, and some might do so just to troll or to spite a person, and if people take the Upvote & Downvote buttons seriously, it can be damaging in some ways.
Especially if the Devs take the upvotes & downvotes as metrics.
Not only is that the worst idea suggested in the forums to date, but I'd argue they need to go take them away in reddit too. People have proven they can't be trusted to make rational decisions and downvote things they don't like instead of on the basis whether they are a good argument or not.
Downvotes are ripe for use as a harassment tactic. So, no.
What I'd prefer to see is a way to hide entire threads based on who the Original Poster is. If you've put them on your 'ignore list', the entire thread becomes invisible.
No to the downvote system. It encourages mob mentality. The forums are “supposed” to be a place where you can feel comfortable giving your opinions and feedback, even if other ppl dont agree with it. You can usually tell a troll post by the title anyways, ignore them. If ppl stop getting riled up and outraged at these obvious trolls they wouldnt be multiplying as much as they do. They keep doing it bc they get exactly what they want from people.
These forums don't need downvotes (some trolls would actively seek them too), they need active moderation.
