I read somewhere - but don't ask me where, It was years ago - that the dialogue in japanese was overall very simple and that they work together with the translators to give some flavor to the dialogue. And in a way it is noticeable because, beyond the fancy words and purple prosing, the dialogue itself is pretty bland most of the time.
Not always, but a lot of times it is definitely bloated.
I don’t work on a boat, and same goes for my friends ; those words are still in use, yes, but we aren’t used to them. :) (I found myself a memotechnical thing t remember it so now I’m good lol). But a lot of people were and still are struggling.
But yeah, I didn’t understood those English navy words weren’t used since the 14th century… !
Larboard hasn't been used since then. Starboard is still in use. The point is the other languages had an easier time knowing it was left and right. As even the terms used in the Japanese version have the Kanji for left and right as part of the word. Then there's the 2nd boss of Temple of the fist that uses Port, Aft and a few other nautical terms that just adds to the confusion. Not that people seem to know their left from their right anyway as people still get smacked by left handgun and right handgun all the time against Mustudio.
The Rogue dialect was a little odd at first, but once I got used to it, I really missed it when I had to switch to Ninja.
