Thoughts on the new RESTRICT act and it's impacts on MMO Players

I think people are hysterical... and also it is not related to FFXIV at all.

Would be the same to put a ban on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter.... they all do the same... collect information.

Close but not quite. It is true that social media is general is a major issue.

However, Titkitok is a special case. PRC can use TikTok for information to formulate propaganda, and considering how easy it is to polarize and lie to Westerners, that's a major concern. Tiktok reports to the parent company, which reports to the CCP.

That said, this bill sucks. It's vague and more government power generally leads to bad things.

So in your view, the way to fix that is to ban Tik Tok so that young people can't coordinate in any way while the older generations continue to have their echo chambers that have led to the polarization in the first place?

Funny how many people have been like "good, TikTok bad" when seeing this. Giving up a lot of freedoms just so that you don't have to think about an app you don't have to use yourself existing.

I think all social media is terrible for society as I said in my post. In a different post I said that the biggest problem with Tik Tok is that it is under the control of the CCP and we can't regulate it effectively, but we can regulate US tech companies. As for banning it, I don't really care. If it gets banned, something will fill the void by it no longer existing, as has been seen in other countries that banned Tik Tok. The real thing that needs to be fixed is that there is no data privacy from big tech and no one in government cares enough to pass a law to deal with that.

hey just because some terrible people misuse something isn't a reason to ban it from everyone some people just enjoy content that suit their way I follow alot of gothic/emo make up tiktoks and styles that suit me
