Instant Portraits

My Wife cant even use instant portraits. When she opens the Portraits window, it is blank with nothing to click on.

That said, you are NOT under any circumstances allowed to change the tiniest bit on your Gear or it all breaks.

I'm sick to death of the whole ego trip broken vanity card system. It's so convoluted the average person needs an instruction manual or a personal session with an IT specialist to get it to work.
If I could figure out how to disable it, I'd do that in a hot second.
This is all I ever get from the whole stupid mess:

It should show in the portrait menu, the [!] symbol if your current gear doesn't match the saved portrait. Save it again and it should be all good.. until next time you change something.

Or it doesn't break when you expect it to. I made an update to my healer gear, which caused all of them to get the yellow '!' in the portrait menu. Yet, when I queued up into a duty as my MNK and SAM before updating them, those portraits still worked just fine.

I stopped trying to give advice on how to get this system to work. Seems to have a mind of its own.

I've had it with no ! symbol showing and it still breaks. Had to equip a different piece of gear, save the portrait, and then equip the original piece and save to get it working again. No idea why it happened. I didn't do anything aside from remove materia!

That's why it broke. You removed materia. Any time you change even the smallest of details of a gear set the game sees that as a different set. Regardless if the outward appearance changes or not. This even happens with gear sets. Use visor function even on something that doesn't? Game feels you've changed it. Add or remove materia? The game is going to read it as a change to your gear and pop the icon saying there's been a change on the save gear set button at the top right when viewing your equipped armor.
