To be fair I'm a relatively new player, I started playing this game on 5.3!

Best thing for NG+ would be to replay parts of the story you want without having to go through part 1 (which is say 15 or so quests). For example:
If for some ungodly reason I would like to replay the instance of "In From the Cold" I would like to be able to pick that part from NG+ and start there. Or any other quest for that matter that makes up the MSQ.
A lot of my favorite parts of MSQ are literally in the middle of NG+ points. And while I still would like to have the option to replay an entire expansion if I wanted to, I would ALSO like to pick a quest to start from.
Or SE could add unvoiced cutscenes to the Unending Journey. That would be nice.
As someone who is returning to the game and playing NG+ to bring myself back up to speed... it would be nice if they would reward XP to help level jobs... especially for solo players who don't usually run group dungeon roulette's and such.
Make alts like the rest of us.
I also dont see the point of new game +, if i really want to experience the whole story again i would make a new char. Im on the same side like the op, doing something without a reward seems like a waste of time for me. With a new char i would have atleast another char at max level.
I think xp would be fine, but not exclusive rewards that required you to ng for
SE's made it fairly clear that they have no intention of adding any rewards to NG+. It would be too easy to abuse since the chapters could be replayed as much as you want.
The main reason why I make alts is to replay the MSQ. It's not even the lack of rewards that makes me avoid NG+. It's the lack of any feeling of character progression since I'd be playing on a level cap or near level cap job. Even if most of the combat is in instanced duties where I'll be level synced if I want, it still doesn't feel the same.
If you're really interested in replaying the MSQ because you've enjoyed the story, then that by itself should be plenty of reward. Or if you really need some sort of reward, make an alt. Once you're finished, you can always move any accumulated gil and tradeable items to your main before deleting the alt with the help of the marketboard or friends.
As for having more productive things to do with your time, it sounds like you're trying to turn the game into a job. I really don't recommend that because the game starts to lose its value as relaxing entertainment. Do what's enjoyable to you at the time you're logged in. Don't let your experience be ruled by "I should" or "I must". Let it be ruled by "this sounds fun today".
