I'm pretty sure you can still skip most mechanics even at min-ilevel due to potency changes between ARR and EW level 50 skills (also new Jobs).

tbf, while i get your sentiment... there is a difference between a normal player wanting a quick roullete.. and a Mentor picking CONCIOUSLY mentor roullete, and then leaving on an EX when that is quite litteraly what they sign up for when they request mentor status ingame
Both involve knowingly entering a special queue that uses you to fill in gaps in duties of that kind (or nearly any duty, for mentor roulette), knowing that what you get is basically random and you're meant to accept what you get no matter what. A 'normal player wanting a quick roulette' manipulating the system to guarantee a certain outcome and a mentor leaving EX trials in mentor roulette are comparable.
It doesnt, alliance raids can be made more difficult even towards newer players, because these are often not designed in such way that you rely on a few people. You have a huge amount of players in them, which generaly compensate for skill diffirences. And the moment these become more difficult and take more time, other raids can take over in popularity as they might actualy be easier due to less strict ilvl requirements. Just imagine that for example a lvl 70 raid would be most popular, you will still be able to get the lvl 50 ones, but as you prefer the lvl 70 one most, you are forced to still accept the lower ones. Sure, the lvl 80 raid would then be excluded, but we can ofcourse apply the same trick on that lvl 70 raid then to push the higher level raids towards being the most popular ones.
ilvl restrictions are on that a good way. Sure, it might used to slow cast times for a moment, but considering the fun i have in the reworks of the 2 old msq dungeons and trial. For outdated raids, I would say that this is a good and simple solution that doesnt require reworking the entire thing.
Another solution would be to make the rewards scale towards the ilvl of gear you enter with, vs the lvl of the msq (avoids a lvl 70 that is still in HW to be punished severely). Stripping down would on that just negate any bonus and it becomes more rewarding to just go with the best gear you have. But again, this is already more work than just placing an ilvl restriction on the raids
We're talking about two different things. My suggestion has nothing to do with skill and everything to do with forcing the roulette to give you a specific duty by (a) unequiping all your gear or (b) never unlocking anything but the first raid tier.
If you don't set the roulette to require everything available at the queued job's level, there will always be people forcing the "roulette" to select only the first, lowest level, duty. If people want the roulette xp on their Lv80 job, they should be required to risk getting a Lv80 duty.
A player still in HW doesn't need DR:AllianceRaids xp on their Lv70 job. If they haven't finished 3.0 yet they also really don't need it on their Lv60 job. Just lock them out of the roulette on their Lv60 job until they've done the Mhachi raids. They can still use the roulette on lower level jobs in the mean time.
Hard agree. Crystal tower is the reason I dont want to do alliance raids.
Indirectly it actualy still is, but i was looking at an other aspect. Note i was stating that skill can just balance out things without affecting too much, not that excessive skill is needed.
The reason people force it is because it is easy (effectively no skill required), and easily exploited. If everyone was forced to play with that low level gear, the raid would be harder and could effectively require the same effort as a lvl 60 or 70 one. Skill diffirences in players are usualy enough to compensate here making it possible to have all raids feel equaly difficult, which protects the newer players here. Thats where the skill of player covers the situation. Some players will carry the raid no matter which.
The 2nd thing of not unlocking the other raids is something you cant (and shouldnt) do anything about in preventing them from doing the roulette. There are a lot of quests in the game and sometimes you simply arent going to trigger all the quests instantly. Making such raids easily missed. I also think its bad if a lvl 70 character (which is also in lvl 70 msq), is locked out because he effectively wasnt able to do the lvl 60 ones (queue times can be a lot higher). Still, it would be a decent metric for scaling rewards: the more unlocked and available through the selected gear, the higher the reward (instead of just using ilvl/lvls).
If I play anything thats above level 70, 9 out of 10 times I get Return to Ivalice or Nier.
