FFXIV Has the Population to Support an ELO system for Duty Finder / Party Finder

I wish people cared less about performance and more about fun, but they don't and it's unfortunate. But I can assure you that if we get some kind of skilled based group finding it's going to be bad for both the bottom of the barrel as well as the top. And you don't have to correlate data to see that. It's basic common knowledge that not everyone is or cares about the hardcore aspects of most games. In fact the data proves this fact, but let's kick mud at each other for the hell of it.

The way I look at it play the game with your friends and enjoy the ride.

I think you underestimate the fragility of this community.

I agree with Rinhi on their impression that you don't run higher level content often.

That's the conclusion I reached as well. The only people who would actually benefit from the system are the peeps in between, since both extremes (toxic elitist and casuals) are small numbers that can only mingle with themselves.

Having an "improved" Hall of Novice would be a good idea either way.

I wonder if having tiers would split the populations in an odd way, though. I suspect either one or the other will get the majority of players. If you plop MSQ into the Tier 1, potentially you may end up with insufficient players to run that content. You may just put it in both, and that may effectively erase the tiers. It's generally rather tough to play with populations in this manner, often goalposts just get moved aggressively.

This also doesn't really account for style of play or focus. Someone can complete the Hall of Novice training but still not execute the latest rotation or not keep up with their GCD perfectly, which I've seen referred to as "basic" by people here. One issue with expectations is that they kind of never really end. I wouldn't be surprised if such a Tier II actually became more toxic.

No thanks, I don't want to be shoved at an MMR level where everyone around me expects me to run like a million dollar tournament champ every time I do an expert roul. Which is exactly what has happened to me in every game that has MMR.

Not that FFXIV is that hard, but I'm just saying... Maybe, my caffeine hasn't kicked in yet, maybe my box of "Kupo Puffs *Now with real berry flavored Poms!" was empty so I'm a bit sluggish and depressed. lol

That's not always true. I've given feedback and I rarely get pushback. But I have seen others give feedback and it's not been mean at all. Just really giving info on a mechanic or something and not even addressing someone specifically - and I've seen some random person flip their lid. I've not seen that a lot, but I have seen it a handful of times over the years. I've backed the person up who gave the info but I also chuckle to myself about the person who blew up. Like "way to call yourself out there buddy".

Ohhhh umm, I have never really seen these types of matchmakers function as intended. Had very rough time with tier based matchmaking when I played support in Overwatch. Tis much harder to push objectives as a Lucio then it tis as one Genji who can penta kill the entire enemy team if team is not performing well.

Example kinda because the mind has been mush;

Everyone starts Unranked

You belong in the Experienced category however because are unranked the initial matchmaking system will put you with anyone.

Your luck is bad so you (Experienced yet Unranked) are placed with three players who are also Unranked yet belong within Novice rank.

Their performance is so poor that it also drags down your performance causing the system to classify you as Novice.

Future queues will place you with other Novice players which depending on roll selected you cannot carry. This results in cascading effect that makes climbing from Novice to Intermediate more difficult then it should have initially been.

If you believe you are experiencing feist now just wait until the matchmaker insures that you never queue with experienced players ever again. Worse still if you ask this lala, now Novice players will only ever meet other Novice players because of matchmaking so cannot benefit from advice offered by experienced players until the rank improves. If they are having difficulty learning they will be trapped in Novice for much much longer until they too are feisty.

As irritating as some runs have been would not wish for this. It was one of major reasons for my quitting other multiplayer games.

There will always be people who don't react in the greatest of ways, but I'd still agree wtih VerdeLuck that if you are constantly getting flak for simple advice, you may want to look into your delivery.

A part of me wishes that we were able to send /tells in instances. I feel like giving advice privately vs being "called out" in front of everyone would be far better received. But then on the flip side, turds exist in this game and I don't doubt that they would take the chance to use those /tells for evil. :P

this would be a terrible idea, while it would make the roulettes themselves quicker, the waiting times would most likely more than double (and probably quadruple for dps), not to mention that it goes against the intentions of said roulettes themselves
