I have a total play time of almost 21000 hours and I've seen more people like that than I can name personally. A lot of it DOES happen outside of the game/in private chats though.
Lol, if those examples you provided are what you consider to be so "toxic", perhaps you're just thin-skinned.
Pf is pretty bad though >.>
Actually though PF just has the extremes of both ends, you can get lucky and get into groups better than most statics or you can get unlucky and just get lagging floor tanks.
Unless you actively police your experience as a pf leader it's pretty much up to luck.
And yes this is normal FFXIV community behavior, nobody respects pf.
those examples are hardly the end of the world lmao. so dramatic.
anyway, welcome to the actual FFXIV community lol.
you won't see that kinda chat in public channels but outside the GMs eyes and away from the threat of reports, you get a glimpse of faces behind the mask.
and if you're still not convinced, delve into pretty much any XIV group on social media.
I def haven't experienced any of this during my 9 months or so playing this game or 10 years of MMO's.
1.) don't join a bunch of weirdo discords lol. Or join if really needed for VC raids but don't be doom scrolling those all day, it's a recipe for headache. Mute em all and use as needed for raids.
2.) careful with the FC's, I joined one that was omegacringe, they were ERPing in the FC chat for all to see and everything worse imaginable. That's not most FC's I'm told lol, I left fast and later learned it's a known cringey FC. You can also in game settings, or by right clicking on the tabs, turn off certain things for certain tabs. So for day-to-day gaming, a person could have a chat tab with just /say /tell /system and maybe /shout if you're big on looking for fate or hunt callouts. Then a seperate tab for FC and LS's. This alone will clean up your daily chat experience by a longshot. Definitely have a tab like this you can switch to during dungeons n raids.
3.) You do you but like someone suggested, maybe not join those freako LS's. Having one for hunt / Fate callouts is a huge blessing, but there's not a lot of reason to fill up your chat with lots of other nonsense Linkshells. If that's really one's thing, definitely use the chat tab settings filter features so you have at least 1 quiet tab so you don't go insane lol.
To the person who said basically "yep this is totally normal for every player, everyone is like this 24/7 in all games all the time" sorry but that's just not accurate. It's true only if you allow it to be the case. If you're surrounded by toxic asshats 24/7 that this is "normal", then you have the choice and ability to leave that group and find another. Many other players have much different reality and that is not normal to them or their daily gaming experience. You can chose less toxic people to raid with and which communication forms you engage on.
Point 1 to 3 = Hit or miss, I’d say it’s fifty-fifty. People do vent their bad experience from time to time, but it’s not like they have a personal vendetta against that person. The best you can do is… tread lightly. You can try to comfort them if you cared, but do not feed excessively & prolong the sentiment. This is very similar to one of those “Tales from Duty Finder”-venting.
Point 4 = Not the norm. But depending on the context, it can be educative or outright obnoxious.
This… you probably have to find a different group.
I'd report the shit out of them, then leave.
I don't personally care about what people say or do outside of the game regarding the game but keep it out of /p. It's not hard to show some respect and if you don't like the group you're in, just leave. I've seen a lot of petulant children over the last few weeks that think they're above scrutiny because they can push a few buttons, lol.
No offense but you seem to have picked very... questionable communities, to put it mildly.
