Didn't AWS also get an outage like yesterday? XD
I'm sure any minute now SE, in the middle of their board meeting are going to throw live to random Dave on the forums so he can educate them on how to solve their infrastructure problems.
Creating, testing and deploying a cloud integration of their existing services would likely take weeks or months, and be extremely costly, all to save just a few days of player discomfort.
Migrating an existing service to the cloud isn't a simple matter; There are entire businesses that exist solely to help other businesses with cloud migration, as it can take a substantial amount of specialized expertise. SE has been pretty adamant in the past about having full control over their physical systems, so it's unlikely they have some pre-existing cloud solution ready to go when they snap their fingers.
There's no doubt SE messed up here, but the nature of the problem is more related to how their queuing system was created. This is the angle they're likely working from, as it's the most immediate to them. Deploying solutions to a system as large as an MMO with millions of users takes time, particularly when the nature of the problem seems to be difficult for them to test outside of their production enviornment.
You clearly don’t know anything about cloud computing. This isn’t a realistic solution.
