^this. I don't want to just be "some soldier". I want my deeds to be associated with me, not some nameless WoL. I am the WoL and I want to stay that way, Blessing notwithstanding.

I don't particularly mind if the story wipes the slate clean after Endwalker wraps up. I think it's entirely possible to still have the player character be a hero whilst stepping back from the role of being one of the most important characters in the story at absolutely every point. I'd like to see other characters step up more. So many of them are interesting, yet end up forced to stand in the shadow of the player character for the most part.
I want the player character to go back to being an adventurer again. A powerful one, certainly, but still primarily an explorer.
How is the WoL not already an adventurer? They're literally the scions adventurer. If something needs done or somewhere needs explored that's already the WoLs job and what they do for the team.
All of that is ignoring that if you wanna be some no name adventurer you're literally only that for maybe 10 MSQs before you get recognized in your home nation as a champion and sent on errands around Eorze.
Agreed. Personally i’m not a fan of the “chosen one” type of story. I don’t need my ego stroked, i don’t need to be told by npcs how amazing i am, i just want to go around and explore and meet new people, not be stuck with the same boring people for multiple expansions.
As I noted before in this thread, if there's to be a reset on WoL, I would either it did not happen at all or it was complete and total. I would rather be sent back to the character creation screen to make a brand new reincarnation instead of just being told "Well, everyone just forgot WoL so you'll go unrecognized for a while".
As I keep saying and trying to explain (but you people seem to be unable to grasp it), you wouldn't be unrecognized. You run into Ser Aymeric, he reminisces about you, him, and Haurchefant rushing the Vault, and how you killed Nidhogg (remember, it was not the WoL's power, but a certain wintery dragon's power). You run into Admiral Merylweb, she remembers how you and the Scions found that cure for Tempering (since it wasn't the WoL's power) and helped create a possible peace with the Kobolds. You meet Kan-E-Senna, she remembers how you and the Scions managed to stop Shinryu by awakening Omega (again, not the WoL's power). WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PRIMAL SLAYING, EVERYBODY WILL KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT NON-GODLIKE FEATS YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED WITH OTHERS. Please don't make me have to explain this again.
You will always be a Scion to them, always a friend to them, the job trainers will always remember what you've done for them. Random NPCs you've done things for will always remember you. You will be seen as a hero, almost on the level of the WoL. But you in their minds will not be the WoL.
I want to go back to being an adventurer too, but not for the same reasons and definitely not in this way.
I want to go back to being an adventurer because I don't enjoy being a soldier which we clearly are (I'm a captain...), or a tempered pawn in Hydaelyn's plot.
Hydaelyn's plot is nearly over, and the conflict with the empire maybe too, so let's just make the decision to leave all organizations except for the adventurer's guild.
I wish the adventurer's guild had a much bigger role in the future and revived the adventuring theme of the game.
I remember FFXIV being advertised as an adventurer's game before it was released, and yet the story completely revolves around being a soldier and a chosen hero.
You could say everything is an adventure, but imo the game's story is as far from free adventuring as it gets.
Yes, but most of us want to be remembered for the Primal slaying, having the power and our godlike feats We don't want that taken from us. We want to be known as the WoL to all and sundry not just "almost on the level of."
A lot of us don't want that. We aren't tempered and I suspect the WoL is probably rather pissed at Momma Crystal at this point. I happen to enjoy being a soldier in the game. I enjoy having my squadron and knowing that my WoL is helping others to follow in their footsteps. I don't want to lose that.
I dont think that we will truly become Azem again. For that to happen we would need to rejoin with quite a few soul parts again which means that x people have to die and rejoin with us. For me it would be much more powerful if we stay ourself and take care of the Final days. One big theme of the last expansion was to learn from the past but to also move forward, so that others may walk that path. Using some of Azems power, learning about their past (or maybe just Venats) but still staying throught to the reincarnation we are now just feels the most fitting of it all.
I am also not a fan of the "WoL will die and/or be forgotten" ending. Honestly we dont need such a hardcore ending to power down a bit. Just let us spent all of our crystals and maybe the new sun one too in a final act to stop the last boss. There we lost a bit of our power. After the end of the world is done, we would be free to go our seperate ways and start a new adventure in a foreign country again.
I just dont get how the game could even go on if we somehow died / got forgotten...it was always the point of the game to connect different plot points over different expansions together. How could we find a truly good ending to the Dalmasca arc if Fran and the others dont know who we are? Or any of the other questlines we surely will start with 6.0.
What about being part of a great company? Owning a house? For all of it to make sense SE would have to take all of that away from us...after all you cant be a high rank in a city state if the state does not remember that you exist...I get the feeling that people want to have such a bold ending but still eat their cake too by keeping everything else.
