What makes them feminine anyway?
Personally I've never been bothered. To me, aesthetic and clothing don't define genders and will never do.
I either like the aesthetic or not. It's apple and orange.
Na i like it better that way personally..
I wish the armor looked the same on both male/female or at the very least add them both and let us choice rather Feminine set/ or w/e
Personally i find armor that is "masucline" ugly as hell to the point it's just trash
Nothing is "wrong" with it exactly, but it can be overboard. WHM AF sets are notoriously dresses that are more suited for female characters but it's more than that. A lot of generic healer sets are the same thing over and over - a big white gown that's probably the same model as the caster dps' big black gown. And when the gown isn't black or white it's still a gown - look at the Ravel Keeper robes as an example, they're extremely female-leaning in aesthetic.
We still don't really have armored pieces that healers can wear. There are certain pieces that have bits of leather but hardly anything with metal, a breastplate, etc.
Here's a piece of WHM exclusive gear from FFXI.

Speaking of FFXI you'd find a lot of WHM AF gear in that game comes in the form of doublets rather than full robes. XIV doesn't even have proper cloth physics so it's weird to me that they lean towards long bulky robes as much as they do. That's not to say robes are inherently feminine, but XIV's robes tend to be bottom heavy and frilly. I actually like robes on guys but a robe on a man should have a different shape than a robe on a woman.
Interesting. I never thought that any of the jobs have a masculine or feminine feel to them. They are just the ascetics of FF's jobs in a modern setting whether it be their skills or AF gear. I suppose if one thinks robes are feminine than WHM is definitely not for them. Has there ever been a WHM in the entire series of FF that didn't wear some sort of robe? I can't recall. Robes to me make my think of people in a religious settings, like priests and nuns, not something as male or female.
I suppose this is just a difference of taste or how they were exposed to things growing up. Like the color pink, I don't see it as feminine. It simply reminds me of flowers my grandmother use to grow.
*Edit: Ah, thank you FrogDog - FFXI had a more light armor look. Interesting! I wouldn't mind having more options for an armored look. Though the only WHM AF I've liked in FFXIV was the ARR one. I love simplistic looks like that.
Unfortunately a lot of healing gear in general is very feminine based. You can tell they clearly design the healer gear with mainly females in mind and just do very few changes to the male version. Considering their job artwork for all the healers is all females though….just proves my point even more lol
Regarding BLM, the only set I can think of where you can make that argument is the Goetia set, and even then, it's not clear-cut - nowhere near as bad as healer sets or SMN. ARR AF is very much not feminine and is even showcased by a male character, and the rest have distinctive male/female versions so as to render the argument moot. Male versions tend towards conventional robe designs (or coats for ARR), whereas the trend with female ones has to been to accentuate parts of the female body. The worst you can say of them is that they're not the most imaginative robes. There are often much better role sets - e.g. this expansion has had the Deepshadow, Shadowless (not quite Ascian but similar enough), Yorha-53, Augmented Law's Order and Cryptlurker sets (although I like the healer one better) which all overshadow the AF.
I also think some caster armour is too feminine and therefore lacks catering to all types of players. I see nothing wrong with people desiring more masculine options.
What I dont understand is, if people want their characters to look more masculine, people for some reason have an issue with the idea and are told to "get over it".
What's wrong with wanting more masculine-looking character gear? Yet, when someone suggests having the option for males to wear maid outfits everyone is literally praising and trying to prove how accepting they are.
Depends; I haven't felt that the expansion has been lacking in masculine options for caster sets. All the ones I mentioned were pretty good. It's usually the AF that is a let-down in recent years. With that said, I wouldn't say no to some Exdeath-styled sets.
