you target it and check it like you would any NPC. It's not the depreciated interactions menu.
Select exit the game or return to character screen from the menu that comes up, and you will hop in the bed then log out.

Anyway, I'm rather concerned about the lax security at the inns, what with people coming into my room while I'm asleep and leaving cookies on the bed while I'm sleeping on it.

if this hasn't been correctly answered.... you CLICK on the bed and it will pop up a menu that says

What would you like to do?

choices are:

Nothing.
Exit the game.
Return to Character screen.
Examine the bed.

to sleep you chose either Exit or Return and then when you log back in and you've had a nice sleep you then choose examine the bed and you may find something there

In fact you should be checking your inventory for MISSING subligar. Reinheart may have attempted to take yours and leave these 'presents' as calling cards.

Agreed Hyrist!! The moment I saw OP's pic I could only think of Reinheart. I keep making extra subligar and leaving it hanging off the end of the bed hoping for better rewards when I wake up! :3
