If your only in it for the reward or the gratification that you did something you probably shouldn't be a mentor and probably shouldn't be in mentor roulette..
If you can't lose an hour of your time or can't actually teach someone mechincs then you shouldn't mentor..
Once you cry to the new player about doing thr fight in PF are you going to join that player's synced EX fight on PF? Probably not because your just there for a reward.. so no.. your not a mentor your just there for the crown and the mount..
Except we're not teaching them mechanics.
We're trying to go against the conditioning they've received from day 1 since starting the game that it doesn't matter what they do as long as they're pressing buttons while at the same time trying to get them to do mechanics.
This is what we're dealing with: If not worse
With that said Is there really such a need for such vitriol against mentors? Are you even a mentor? Some people just aren't ready for extreme and it has nothing to do with mentors.
I joined a 40 minutes in progress Leviathan EX just yesterday and we ran out the clock.
Not even 20% echo can help those people.
Sure you can clear most of them save Ramuh, The Great Hunt Ex(sometimes), and Sephirot but why are people so upset that some people just A. Aren't worth helping, B. Don't want help, or C. Aren't ready for the help being offered?
These people have never been challenged at all leading up the time they put themselves into the queue, they have next to no raid awareness, and don't even understand how to dps an add that appears infront of them unless specifically told and reminded to do so. If left to their own devices they would hit Ifrit while he was invincible until they wiped multiple times.
You can't help people who don't want to be helped, it goes both ways.
The uproar is understandable.
The mentor system has been made so that mentors helps newcomer. But when these don't listen/don't read chat on EX trial and just brainlessly chain pull like it will work to go brute force... you can't be anything else than tired, especially recently with all these new player.
Good luck telling each one of them not to queue in DF but do EX trial in pf. Except if someone with a big notoriety make them aware of it...
Otherwise yes, of course, there are bad mentors ect...
But the system drastically need to be reworked for both mentors and sprouts, so fighting to know who has the worst behavior won't improve it.
I was all for the "mentor need to help for EX trials" as well. But now that I mostly get these on my roulette...
I mean, being a mentor doesn't mean we like wasting time you know. So at least, even if the duty has failed but you made everything you could to help, that was still a little something.. compare to not being listened...you gotta eat the penalty for leaving after that.
So yeah... no, it's not a good time to be a mentor recently.
I got into Garuda EX today. One tank mentor, the other wasn't. As soon as I mentioned that we can't damage the add if tethered, that new tank made sure if the tether came back on he'd move the add. I think we cleared in 3 pulls. When people actually read chat and learn it is a very enjoyable experience, but as this thread shows this isn't always the case as my Shiva EX over the weekend despite callouts people wouldn't spread or get behind her for Glass Dance and the timer ran out.
And sprouts aren't entitled to be carried either.
EX content has multiple phases and multiple mechanics that aren't easily taught via typing them out.
Garuda is possibly the easiest EX there is. If the group gets Thordan, Mog, or worse (Sephirot / Zurvan / Tsuyu)? Not happening.
I go into the mentor roulette fully expecting to get extremes and to help people clear them if possible.
But as mentioned, some players are beyond help for one reason or another.
If a tank cannot follow instructions as simple as "get enmity on this add and tank it at this waymark" after multiple pulls, then they have no business trying to do the content in the first place.
