Do FF XIV Players Keep Up With AAA Releases?

I'll play anything new that actually interests me. That's not a lot of games, really. New games are usually husks of what they could be, thanks to corporate and crunch.

XIV is unlike its predecessor. FFXI required so much of my time to get good stuff that I hardly ever played anything else, and barely ever wanted to unless it was multiplayer games at a friend's house.

Since XIV's been out I've dipped into many other games, as well as some games that I missed out on.

During XIV's time I've stepped away from it to play:

I'm very much looking forward to Elden Ring.

Fun thing about FFXIV is that it respects your time. I have my hands in three mmos, but I'm pretty selective about which single player games I pick up.

Nah outside of bioware games I have very little interest in most AAA games since they are often overhyped and generic, plus I am not a big fun of games that end which is exactly why i prefer mmorpgs that never end.

I would be more specific and say I try to keep up with releases that interest me. There's plenty of AAA stuff I could not give a hoot about. That said, yeah... These past 4-5 years have seen my backlog of games increase at a steady rate. My predilection lies in RPG games, which tend to be kinda long, and I have very little time at my disposal... so my appreciation for shorter games has grown over the years. I very much enjoyed the RE2 remake, for example. Started playing at midnight, and beat the Claire campaign around sunrise. Felt rather refreshing, to be honest.

I personally just don't need to play new games all the time to feel fulfilled, For me I care about the gameplay more than I care about the technology. I enjoy trying to make my character look the way I want or finding a better piece of gear to feel more powerful. I play other games but I just don't care if I'm enjoying one game I'll just play that. also I don't have infinite money that I can just throw at new games all the time. Technology is honestly for me the last thing I care about Idc if they get better graphically or anything because honestly Graphics don't really get much better anymore rn. like really ps4 doesn't really look that different from ps5 1440p doesn't look that much worse than 4k. I just don't care or get excited about graphics or the technology anymore. I play games to unwind hang out with friends and enjoy my freetime. FF provids that so I play that.

I do, it's just a lot of games release buggy. So I wait few months, before I buy them.

I think if companies want to sell new game to me, they would need to avoid the terms "AAA" directly or indirectly.
Because if I see the game is "AAA", I would lock my wallet.

If it's about MMORPG - I'm waiting for Blue Protocol release, as there's nothing more what interests me in this area.

For single player games I'm currently playing FF7 Remake and Nier Replicant, and also have few "Tales of", "God Eater" games and also Persona 5 in line. Thinking on playing Ghost of Tsushima as well. Will play FF16 if I manage to get PS5 upon its release.
I don't generally keep up with AAA releases though, because most of them don't interest me, and also my PC can't handle most of them on a good level anyway.

No, it's not. It's about having fun.

That's why so many AAA companies are having problems in recent years. They're trying so hard to impress with technology that they've forgotten they also need to make their games fun. Then they don't understand why players are unhappy and the games fail.

As for the more general question, sometimes I'll follow development on a game if it sounds like it's actually going to be what I find fun. Overall I'm having a good time with this game along with 2 others so I don't pay much attention to what's new. If I start getting bored with what I'm currently playing, then I'll start paying more attention.

Its not hard to keep up with new games
The problem is if there are any INTERESTING new games.
And if there is an interesting new game, just gotta understand how time management works...a few hours on this game, then a few hours that game.
Or this day or this week ill play this or that game.

Just gotta balance
Its less complicated then it sounds.
