Reaper expectations

Imo might have more personal dps than a Dragoon but less than a Monk with more utility to compensate. Jobs that share gear tend to not be too different (besides Magic ones) between each other, like MNK and SAM are mostly glass cannons even if one has a bit more of utility than the other

I would like a dps neutral gap closer with a set number of charges that propels you a set distance in the direction that you were moving (i.e. Roll/Blink). An execute which gives you HP and resources would be nice.

I'm hoping that there's some way to extend your transformation while you're in it and that it upgrades your baseline rotation to something more complex, rather than being a one button push to transform and spam a single big attack.

I don't think they really make executes anymore since both assassinate and bards aren't really around or were ever real execute abilities.

Executes don't exist in their traditional form, primarily because the playerbase seems to have an aversion to situational abilities, and it's probably harder to balance out dps output when it's dps dependent. That doesn't mean that abilities that trigger on mob death are completely out, however. Mug still has its flavor effect in terms of item drops.

That being said, NIN still retains some interesting stylistic traits (All Fours, Fleet of Foot), so I don't see why Reaper couldn't have something that even passively procs on mob death.

Skills that proc on mob death is definitely possible. After all we have DoT procs so I wouldn't find it unfeasible.

I really think RPR is going to be a mix of originality and FFXI Dark Knight though. Might see a lot of returning Scythe attacks from XI given the wording in the translated interview along with the expansion bonuses throwing us a big name glamour scythe from XI.

Players complaining about the transformation: " I want tranformation glams !" / " No transformation plz i want to see my glam ! "
Players who enjoy the job will be too busy having fun to see all the complaining and one patch will apear and make everything worse for thoose guys XD

I don't think the job will be very complex, something similar to stormblood sam/dnc in terms of difficulty. For gameplay maybe a mix of ninja/gnb/HW drk

3 combos (1,2,3/4,5/6,7), 1 dps combo, 1 dot combo and 1 buff combo (a bit like stormblood ninja i think ?). The buff and/or the dot have to be maintained. At least 2 combos have a skill with positionals (the usual, but a mele without positionnal would satisfy some players imo if it's not too boring).
At least 2 offGCD "voidsent attack with me" similar to bunshin from ninja. Or its something closer to continuation of gnb : you tap the button 1 time to use the continuation skill (spends resources at the same time) and you have to weave more hits after.
1 cap closer and maybe 1 button to move away ?
1 button to get a lot of resources
A raidwide buff that guives resources to the reaper
Berserk mode transforming other skills instead of just unlocking 1.
Some utility to help healers like mnk or/and with a Rez ? But less rez capacity than a rdm or even a smn.

Misery's End was a decently significant Execute in dungeon-running back in the day. It was significant oGCD potency on a short CD. Why Assassinate amounted to so much less over time is beyond me. Honestly, I'd have liked to see the latter, at least, able to make at least a somewhat noticeable difference in add-heavy fights like A2, A4, etc.

In Reaper's case, I think the main thing is just that it needs not to be locked out of use for 65 or 80% of combat (usable only over the last 35, 30, or 20% of enemy HP). Specific synergies between abilities, whereby an enemy suddenly counts as if at critical HP, is workable but still worse (imo) than just letting us use the skill whenever while letting it hit harder as an Execute. If it's something you'd normally want to snapshot into CD windows when nothing's sufficiently low, but save for execute purposes once an enemy is about to hit that window, that seems perfectly fine. It'd be no more "bloat" or "situational" than the likes of Elixir Field, Upheaval, Bloodletter, etc.

my speculation is

2-3 combo chains where we attack with the scythe (one being a damage/resource builder chain, while the other is a dot/self buffchain)
a few ogcds that we attack with the voidsent
as for the possession form
likely a burst phase where it augments the skills you have and turns them into skills with higher potency and shorter gcds. We see skills similar to that without the potency increase on MCH where we have heat blast which is an attack that is on a faster gcd than other skills.
There will probably also be longer CDs to fill the meter at start of fight to fit their opener in with everybody else's buffs and just improving the overall flow of the play.

This isn't really touching on aoe skills, but I'd assume it is like most others. One aoe chain with some ogcd to use as well.

The concept of executes seems suited best to PvP not PvE, especially not an ability in a dungeon. At least executes in PvP can have a skillful application and play potential around it while being semi balanced I don't see how you can create a truly satisfying executes in a PvE based setting since boss fights are the main attraction
