Island Sanctuary Appreciation Thread

From experience the devs hate direct copy-pastes of successful content from other games and tend to opt for convoluted niche systems of their own. There's a chance they'll keep it simple and it could be something fun but also a good chance we have another Verminion-type idea on the way.

I have two thoughts on it.

1) I think a lot of the player base is expecting it to be almost a free instanced housing area and I don’t think it’s that at all.

2) I think the emphasis that you ‘don’t need’ a crafter/gatherer to enjoy it and you can still do some without it, hints that you kinda need a crafter gatherer to get the most of it.

I’m expecting single player ishgard restoration/firmament/doma restoration style gameplay zone personally.

I'm honestly expecting "Everyone gets a garden patch for free. But it can't be used for crossbreeding seeds. And there won't be any new plants introduced either, so have fun growing flowers that sell for 1/1000th the cost of their seeds on the market board".

With them hyping it up, at least there's a good chance I'll be pleasantly surprised?

Yeah, I'm keeping my expectations low. I want it to be good though, I really do.

I'm expecting this as well. I expect I'll enjoy it based on the addition of roaming minions if nothing else.

I worry that people expecting instanced housing are getting their hopes up too much....I agree this would be a great way to add it to the game, but to my knowledge SE has said nothing regarding customizable buildings being attached to this content. I learned long ago to never expect more from SE than exactly what they say when I assumed we were getting chocobo training mini games and it turned out those were just cutscenes played when you feed a chocobo at a stable.

Now that retainer ventures reward flowers on a frequent basis, they're no longer profitable. At least on my server. :(

I hope there's a set amount that each crop sells for to an NPC, to ensure that it's consistently profitable and future proof.

Oh yeah, the prices of a lot of things went down within a week of the retainer updates going live. In hindsight, they probably should have done this in small phases.

Once they show what it's actually about I might show appreciation. So far I'm worried it will be just roleplay fluff, which isn't really the thing I care the most in this, or possibly content that bots will render a waste of time for non botters.

I don't really have a lot of expectations but I just love the idea of having my own island sanctuary. As long as there is a little bit of customization and it looks cool I think I will be happy.

All we know is it's an instanced area, involves minions and actual farming. What I worry is its availability: Will every character have a personal island? If it's limited like housing, then it may have actual decoration and customization, if it's more widely vailable, it may have some customization but probably not actual decorating.

What I want to know is if it'll be personal, or locked so you have to be in an FC to have an island and the island is the FC's property, not the individual player's.
