Being a beneficial item could definitely be construed as encouraging smoking, and would probably make it M. If it were just novelty, who knows?

Im still fine with them bringing some type of smoking emote to the game... hell there are some games that let you drink until you pass out in palm fronds... its just a game its not like you're going to smell smoke as a character does it

Are we the one doing the genocide? Its the same with rape and other horrible crimes like that. They exist in the world because there are bad people everywhere...but just because NPCs are able to do it does not mean that we would.

This is a discussion forum. x) One cant just throw out a idea and hope that only those who would like that would post in it. Its neither overreaction nor bad if someone goes in this and says no. Thats just how the forum works.

Can it have a hidden mechanic? Like has a 2% chance of applying a hidden stack of cancer. Get 3 stacks and your character will trigger a hidden timer. Once the timer reaches zero your character drops dead and an anti-smoking advertisement plays on the screen. ;P

An argument can be made that the Warrior of Light is participating in the cultural genocide of the Ascians/Ancients but that's getting a little off topic.

To be honest, there is a bit of an allusion to NPCs who smoke in the game. And honestly I'm just going to go against the grifters here who think "Ah! Smoking bad! Can't promote smoking!": Take a good look at the ESRB tag. There's plenty of stuff already in here like drinking, and smoking is one of them. If I remember right, Yotsuyu had something akin to what one would smoke in a far eastern setting on her in cutscenes to show off her character.

Having a pipe you can smoke out of isn't necessarily a bad thing for XIV to do: In fact, it can allow some rather suave and dapper screenshots if you think about it since there is a community that does take lots of screenies just for their character. In general, it can also add more depth to people's own character if they're into that since there's an RP community too(not speaking about the OTHER community, since that stuff they do breaks ToS). Let the people have their fun.

Just remember: It's a game. But for real life, don't smoke. You just have to remember to separate fantasy from reality.

Hey, the Toast emote has you down an entire pint of alcohol. If we can promote drinking, which has lead to pretty comparable deaths and drama IRL, then we can allow smoking. Like the Toast emote, it would be purchasable via Kupo Store, and would be per character. Don't want it, don't buy it, etc.

I'd really go for it, if it were smoking with a fancy pipe or a big ass cigar. I don't care for smoking too much, mainly due to the taste, but I can admit when I was in the military, sometimes a hit of nicotine was what got me through the day.

I am fine if they want to give our fantasy characters a smoke emote or such.
It doesn't translate to real life.
