Does anyone ever feel like they're an impostor because they don't look like Ardbert?

I personally don't know anyone who roleplays "the Warrior of Light". Well, I'm sure there are some people. But I'm not sure how you meant things. It somehow appears as what you were saying.

What did you mean? If you don't mind my asking for clarification.

That's not really correct, since there's no rule that a soul has to repeatedly end up in a body of the same race/gender.

I think the only time the people of the reflections might have been the same was immediately after the Sundering, but since then the souls of all the sundered have been through the cycle of life and death countless times.

I kinda plan on collecting my thoughts on the matter and posting it as a separate thread, but I think there are at least two reasons

• The point of RP is to immerse yourself into the world, which of then means playing as a mundane person. Something the WoL, a well traveled, well connected individual a skillset most can only dream of is obviously not. The fact that they can use even 1 job stone (which tend to be very rare and or/heavily regulated items, consider that the AST Jobmaster was the target of assassination attempts because Sharlayan didn't want that knowledge escaping her borders, the WHM, PLD and DRG stones are only usually handed to to special people or elite warriors themselves, that SCHistied to a group of bewitched Lalafell that nobody among the Lominsan smallfolk is gonna approach as they are seen as monsters and that SNM and DRK have MSQ ties) let along multiple, is one of several factors as to why it would be problematic (another of which the the "speed" on which they master such difficult skillsets). Further not helping matters is that the story is slowly being retconned into there being only 1 WoL (I assume the rest died at Cartenau and that 4 of the 5 whisked into the future perished before Heavensward), resulting in the role being one of a kind now. I don't think most RPers want to play as peasants, but I do think they see the WoL "archetype" as too much.
  • Sidenote: I do not mean to imply that Echo users are nearly extinct (they're not) but rather that the others are reffered to as Warriors of Light. That said the ability is rare to being with and has recently required certain connotations that would mean it might wind up in a simialr issue if word got out.
• The point is RP is to actually craft your own story with other players. Therefore, following the canon story kinda defeats the purpose. In fact I'd not be surprised if proposing a RP where one of the characters is in close proximity with the Scions (the entire organization, not just the core group that follows the WoL) is looked at with somewhere between apprehension and "no,just no" reactions.
• The more problematic a premise (In this case, "I just happened to be the only individual capable of slaying primals and wielding multiple job stones") is, the higher skill as a writer is necessary to even make it work and as Sturgeon's Law dictates, only 1 tenth is even capable of such a feat. Superman works because the comic industry has talented writers at their back and call willing to explore the premise of a demigod among men and how to make that work. A group of amateur writers is not likely to have the same effect with a similar idea (in this case the WoL) even where merely proposing it isn't tantamount to asking to be ostracized.

I'll clarify more later. But the tldr is its because the WoL is too unique, they want to not be part of the canon narrative which follows them,or because its damn near hard to bring the premise up to a standard where the community would even accept.

Personally, i think the way to not faze us on this is to have the other fragments we encounter (if we do) be other races/sexes; If they're all Ardbert, then yes, a chunk of people will feel like they're playing the wrong WoL, as it would be continually reinforced that that was the canon choice.

Really? That's what RP communities have been reduced to? Just black list or ignore instead of rolling with the person being off their rocker? No wonder RP communities end up shrinking into smaller and smaller cliques.

Incidentally, I do think a Don Quixote archtype would be one of the few cases where claims to be the WoL could be acceptable, but I'm not in any RP community so I wouden't know and even if it was, there are a few strings attached (namely the Don Quixote would have to constantly get everyone within a 5 malm radius of them in trouble, incompetent and a public menace)

I say know we are of the Source and are it hero. as each of the reflection has a hero int his case the Frist had ardbert. yes he look liek the stander midlander. but also the "warriors of light" used in most trailer are just basic representations of the races. ie Roe pld, lala whm, elezan blm, Miquote bard. view in this light witht he knowlage of the great sundering and splitting of souls, one could say Ardbert is imitaing us as everying flows from the source. but to answer the question no my WoL is just who she is and she is fine with that.

No, what i mean is.. Any RP'er worth their salt would be able to interact with a person who's trying to tell you that they're the Warrior of Light, without actually playing into their story; as long as the player in question is actually trying to RP and just faffing about for laughs.
I've done this on many games where RP was a norm; you end up playing it off like the character is an imposter, or act like the character could be a sometimes companion of the actual WoL that had part in battles against eikons (etc) and they have an inflated ego, or simply crazy and interact with them as such (without going above game and just ridiculing them). Then if you really want to be a pal to the person you just met, you can coach them a little to not tie themselves so close to the main story.

Quite seriously, it could be more an oddity of playing Lalafell. They're an odd-one-out in the set of races, with the others being collectively more human-proportioned.

I started as a Lalafell and very quickly dropped that character because she felt so out of place in cutscenes. It felt like she was in a different art style to the rest of the game.

Roxas didn't look that much like Sora. Same age, same gender but they didn't look like the same person.

I know it's the same face at an NPC level but I don't think we're supposed to draw any connection between them - Moren doesn't look at all like Asahi beyond the actual face model, which might just be recycling for the sake of it.

Mowen and Grenoldt, on the other hand... well, I assume the identicality is played for a joke more than that we actually should expect corresponding soul-shards to look alike. For all we know they're not even the same soul and it's just entirely a quirk of the universe that these people resemble each other so closely.

I disagree with that working - I don't think it makes sense.

Looking alike, maybe. (Though even Ardbert and the stand-in WoL aren't quite identical.) But even if they did that, there's absolutely no reason we should get naming rights to the character, because he/she isn't us.

Look at it this way: if you suddenly found yourself in a parallel universe meeting your parallel self, would you have had any choice in what name they were given at birth?

Lots of new players, new players often look at forums to get an idea about the community, and how to play the game. the

hide button is easy to use, and added because of this.

False, if anything the RP community is larger now than ever before, but there is a zero-tolerance for RP griefers, which there are many. Someone steps into your RP playing the WOL odds are they are an RP griefer.
