I've saved my party's ass more times than I can count in 8 and 24 mans with a well-timed healer LB3. If we're good on heals, I will tell the dps to go ahead and use it. But if we're struggling, then that can be the difference between finishing and starting the boss all over again.

Limit breaks in this game are a joke outside of specific situations like ultimate/savage and some extreme fights. Outside of that it's a whatever kind of mechanic; low damage/mostly reserved for melee.

Things i never heard in all the years i am playing the game:

"If you use it at 5% or lower it does more damage"

"If you kill the final boss with it, you get more EXP"


Sounds like someone had some few bad experiences and now thinks noone knows how to use limitbreaks...so nice thread bait...nice bait indeed.

I always find it cute when people try to pretend that min/maxing little things actually matters in easy games. ;)

It makes barely any difference. The way we're overscaled for 99% of content means some classes probably do more damage just going through their rotation and ignoring LB.

Best example are the people going crazy over using the lb in castrum to pull the boss, got almost kicked once cause they wanted to use it to pull and i pulled before that. Most times lbs don't even matter cause just attacking deals way more damage than pulling with it etc.

And yeah, lbs don't matter in most fights, in Savage/EX/Ultimate maybe but in the rest? It saves you seconds, lbs are just a gimmick or a lifesaver when it comes to healer lbs.

No I've heard both of those things too but not often. IDK if it maybe comes from single player games? In Tales of Berseria for example big party-wide abilities used to finish off enemies do indeed grant more experience.

As someone who primarily plays RDM nowadays, I lb dungeon trash if the tank is pulling big (which they usually are), and I don't recall ever having been berated for it, which means it either hasn't happened (at least not within earshot) or it's been so long since it happened that I literally can't remember it anymore.

That being said, if anyone did I'd probably just respond with the tried and true {That's too bad.} It was pretty much the perfect autotranslate phrase in FFXI and it still is; it's just that right blend of passive-aggressive seriousness and snarkiness. It's always a delight whenever I can use it.


IMO if there's any lesson regarding LBs that people really need to be taught, it's that healers aren't going to be saving the party with anything less than a LB3. The number of them that I've seen try to use it with only one or two bars is insane.

You would think that of all the games out there that this one would make "limits" more "involved" then just push a button.

Number 1 reason why i never use LB as a dps unless being asked so : because it is boring.

Dungeons are already way too much easy of a faceroll, so if i could try to stay awake by using that burst phase that would be great, instead of being like "woooot, i did push a single button and everything is dead, such a great gameplay !... or not".

Honestly don't blame the player base for not knowing how to use LB properly. Blame SE for not giving us a proper tutorial on how to use it outside of a single panel in the tutorial screen. All they need to do is make like 2-3 lessons in the hall of novice to teach players how and when to use it in certain situations.
