I would love apartments in Crystarium. I love hanging out there and Pendents would be an awesome location for them. Interestingly enough they spoke about small, medium and large apartments and that they were looking into them. One can hope that is part of what is in development with housing coming to Ishgard.
I'm not going to hold my breath on Ishgard housing being any different than the rest of housing, but I would love it if they did do a nice overhaul on apartments. Maybe let the current apartment entrances actually be entrances to the apartment district some have mentioned?
Taking Lily Hills as an example...
In this setup you zone into the lobby from whatever Lavender Bed ward you're in. This place is a bit like a leasing office, you have all the various npcs there where you can buy upgrades, furnishings, etc. Exactly like the housing district npcs but geared towards apartments. You can browse occupied apartments to visit, stable chocobos (who are maintained by an npc), send mail, hit the marketboard, etc.
Beyond that, a large courtyard opens up with all the various buildings for the complex. Maybe something a little bit like the Crystarium Inn where you can actually run up and down stairs to get to specific floors or residents can use to get to the npcs. There could be a nice pool and landscaping situated in the center of the complex (or maybe private lake/beach access for those in LB, Mist, or Shiro?), and outside each door is a nameplate saying who the owner is and a built in mailbox? There could even be an aethernet solely for residents to use.
Inside, you start out with the basic apartment and gradually upgrade it to a size approximately equal to that of a medium house. You could also set up a bunch of secondary upgrades for amenities. Like... maybe when you build your balcony, building out a garden box is one upgrade, building a penthouse style pool is another, etc. We could even have some fun with floorplans and unlike a house, you could actually purchase a specific floorplan to construct. So if you get tired of the stairs in one spot, or want a ranch style apartment, you can do that.
There's a lot that could be done with this concept if it's done creatively, and honestly as much as I love my current house, if this was done right I would not hesitate to move.
I think the Crystarium Inn room is the perfect size for an apartment now only in size but also height. It has plenty of room and you can even make a section specifically for outdoor furnishing placement.
I did not ready every response, but I just think yes, I like this idea, larger apartments even if more costly would be fine for me. Having the ability to own both a new larger apartment and a smaller one would be nice, but either or is fine as well.
