considering they are distibuting the software a month before 2.0 goes live i very much doubt we will have to unistall 14 to do so....

the maintenance gives me a much needed break from the game. lol
The official statement for that is:
http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/teaser/Quote:
As part of this process, there will be a period required for switching over to a new client and new servers, after which there will be a large transfer of data when service is brought back online. After the new client is completed, new software for the PC version will be distributed online, and can be acquired free of charge. Character data and progress for players already playing the PC version will also be preserved, allowing those players to continue using their in-game avatars.

That should take place somewhere close to November. With how it's worded, it may very well be more than just a day or two even. It's a TON of data to transfer. Ensuring that nothing is lost is tough and will take time.
I do not see this happening. They are supposed to start moving our characters to the new servers soon in preperation for Ver2.0. The only extende time requirements should be for downloading and installing the new client software. This can be accomplished while the current client is still active.
While the maintenance is going on I'll head on back to Star Wars The Old Republic for a while and see what my guild is up to. But, when I come back, much vengeance will be wrought on many Aldgoats. So much vengeance!
Goodbye Fabul, it's been so much fun. Goodbye to all the people I have seen or spoken to there.
