I'm logging in a lot less but Shadowbringers for me is bought and paid for, though the healer news made me quite livid back then. As a former AST main I did not ask for:
Time Dilation to be removed
Celestial Opposition (old version) to be removed
Celestial Opposition to lose its stun (when it was a on a 2 minute cooldown, hardly spammable like holy is so RIP crowd control options)
Cards to be extremely controller unfriendly, too single target focused and feels god awful to use in an efficient manner along with...
Sleeve Draw to be extremely clunky instead of a sleek one and done skill
And that's just the surface. Other parts of new AST feel nice but it's not the same job to me. I leveled it to 80 and ditched it. Despite any grievances I have with SCH (especially the skill ghosting with seraph) I have taken up residence there. Problem is I spend the majority of dungeons doing broil, biolysis, and art of war than anything else.
I assure you wall pulling is the least of my concerns, if one at all. Going on now to 6 years of no new healers and the way they've been handling the role this could very well be my last expansion. There are many other games I could be playing. A shame too since the story for Shadowbringers was very good.
If Square Enix wants a healthy healer population then maybe they should actually acknowledge the role. Sandwiches anyone?

Dealing with chain pulls when I am on SCH was really only an issue for the first day or so. After that I got used to it and used to pre-healing for things I knew to look for.
I do get a tank that pulls more than they can safely handle now and then, but I can usually handle it. Don't think I've let even a foolish tank faceplant in a while - excepting for something like Titania Normal (I can't help you if I'm on the floor because you spun the boss onto the group before a cleave... But that isn't a chain pulling issue).
I'm finding I have a lot to do with my healer... and can keep quite busy without getting overwhelmed...
I get where they were aiming with wanting it more healing and less DPS focused. But with scripted fights and a gear progression game that never works. The reason chain pulling isn't a big issue anymore is I can see 'what's coming' even on trash pulls now... and I very quickly outgeared anything pre-savage.
I don't mind the smaller DPS toolkit, because I actually want it to be more heal focused... but I can see how that negatively impacts many that are more DPS minded.
That said I've mostly avoided Astrologian, and while I had White Mage (and AST) at 70 on my old character last expansion, I've not gotten that far with it this time around (I consolidated 4 characters down to one, so I have to relevel all the jobs now that were previously split by role across the 4 characters).
Astrologian reads like it has basically had it's "class fantasy" deleted... so much so that it feels like the logical next step would be to just cut the healer list down to 2 classes again and give everyone a token to trade all their astrologian levels for that many on any other job...
- I am NOT advocating that. It would be the worst thing they could do... it just feels like the direction the job is going from an outside looking in perspective...
Chain pulling...
That's not the cause of the healer drama. Other things are.

I love healing wall-to-wall pulls. They give me something to do other than shuffle my cards and spam malefic.
-
I'm bored without big pulls. I've never complained at a tank that does small pulls but I can barely stay awake with them. :/

Wall to wall has been standard for years. Someone suggested shuffling debuffs to healers, which I think would be a good idea. Of course, that could potentially mean getting rid of Ninja's trick attack, which then what does it have? I would suggest piling the debuff options on Scholar though, as that has always been its shtick. AST was the buffing healer. But then that leaves WHM out in the cold, so I'm not sure tbh how THAT could be fixed. The problem is how to fix the issue without making the DPS all carbon copies of each other just with different animations and rotations. If they're all basically selfish DPS (like SAM), then how do you differentiate them? It's quite a complex issue tbh.

Personally i dps'd with my RDM until I was able to get better gear for my WHM. 3 wave pulls weren't fun in AF gear and didn't alway end well and my main and alts all heal and do expert/roulettes.
I enjoy healing and full pulls don't bother me when I feel I can handle them reliably.

I make it a note to ask my healers before I start doing the big pulls.
When I'm healing myself, I much prefer large pulls since they make things like proper cooldown management actually important.
-
I've never had issues with big pulls. I still don't but when I can take aggro with a Regen, that isn't pulling, it's speed running. That's the difference between a tank and a guy playing a tank to get easy queue.

Why does lodestone change the sentence big pulls to big sweaters?
