Playing with your significant other

I bought this game for my wife at 2.0 as she is a huge Final Fantasy fan. She started as Archer / Bard because she didn’t want to be close to get hit and had all the mobility. She played for a while, but got nervous playing with other people which eventually drove her away. It’s sad really as she wants to play out the story, but gets too nervous in dungeons with strangers. She does play rarely, but stops as soon as a dungeon has to be cleared. I just duo it with her, so she can continue. She’s barely at Shiva. I do hope NPCs will be available for all dungeons so she can try again, but I doubt that. It’ll kill duty finder.

I got my wife to play, but she decided that since she is Japanese she should play on JP servers, then I never saw her in game again. She didn't like the MSQ forcing her to do dungeons all the time so she eventually just stuck with WoW for the pvp. These days she's been playing Fallout 76.

Someone sounds bitter. In my experience, it's often me and my partner carrying everyone else. I wonder which of us is actually correct?

I'd say do what I did with my late gf: show her the jobs and let her decide for herself, explaining things if necessary. Let her do things herself, but help her when she needs it. Show the way, but don't force her through it.

Easiest class? That'll be gladiator, especially if you offer to heal her as she learns the game.

Being a tank can be an incredible confidence builder. With your support, she can have a lot of fun just jumping into the fray.

Red Mage is an excellent class for beginners. Too bad it's not available until you reach 50th level. :(

Are you me? My husband also introduced me to FFXI shortly after we started dating. I wasn't a gamer at all, but was enchanted with the idea of making a character and having adventures in a fantasy world. We moved into FFXIV together as well. The only difference is that he still plays regularly and we will be jumping into ShB together on the first day of early access. But I definitely play more than he does.
