We're talking about healers.
So do all healers have to be fairy princesses or what?

Pot master instead plz ^^
Seriously though. Healers are wimpy and girly as hell. You have seen the WHM animations, right? ASTs get DRESSES for their AF armor. SCH is the only one that has a semblance of masculinity at all. But, you also get to be a fairy user. Fantastic.
Meanwhile, WAR get's a chainsaw axe. DRK's get to eat souls, and PLD's get to smite enemies and stand on the front lines tanking a huge attack to the face with passage.
AST Lv60 gear is undeniably a dress, but the Lv70 gear is quite different by gender, and I would consider the male version to be a robe (and also much nicer than the female dress). And personally I like dressing my characters in robes and tunics. Fantasy gear.
In the time periods that fantasy settings tend to draw inspiration from, male clothing simply isn't what is seen in modern Western society as "manly". Robes aren't feminine, they're men's clothing from another day and age, and I really like them for character design.
And I honestly don't see Scholar as feminine at all besides the faerie (which I feel has very little bearing on the overall aesthetic of the job). It's still rooted in the very neutral arcanist class, and it's not like every ability is themed around the faerie.
And astrologians call down the power of the cosmos and bend time and fate to their will. It's not any less awesome just because you don't like the "girly sparkles" that come with the job.
You're calling on the power of the stars. Of course you're going to get magic that looks like stars. What's girly about that anyway?
