It's been a few hours and some sleep later but I do remember hearing Yoshi P using the words 'kuro madoshi' to describe Y'shtola during the reveal, which basically means black mage. At the very least when they brought up the Trust System she was termed as the 'DPS' while Thancred was the 'tank' and Urianger was the 'healer'. I do think if anything though she's just going to be a thaumaturge for reasons that others have pointed out. Even when she was a healer she was always classified as a conjurer and not a white mage.
True, but that doesn't stop thms from slinging fire and ice spells which are black magic spells. Or the numerous thm enemies. There's obviously more than one stone out there becasue our lala trainer probably would have died regardless of sharing a body with our world's Shantoto.
She's using what looks like Matoya's staff, but with the Crystal Eye fitted into it. I could see that filling the same purpose as the soul crystal when it comes to aether regulation, especially with how attuned Y'Shtola is to aether after her dip in the Lifestream.
I'm inclined to believe either Y'shtola got her hands on a soul crystal, or just... made her own. This is Y'shtola we're talking about. It's also possible she's gotten so talented with personal aether manipulation that she can regulate it herself without the need of a soul crystal.
Unlike whm lore wise I don't think there's a reason why there couldn't be more than one. There just wouldn't be many soul stones as their kind of old and after the great flood black mages and thus black magic became highly unpopular and if I remember right it was even outlawed for a bit? After all Mach had to have enough mages around to control the various Voidsent they went about using and or imprisoning.
Willing to bet it's Matoya occupying her body and part of the story for the trust system is trying to recover Shtola's and the rest of the scion's souls.
