Whine - the most over- and misused word on this forum
Is it an American thing to assume someone is whining when in fact they are just having an opinion ?
I find it kind of strange.
yes it sure is
There is the fact that Yoshi complains about SOMETHING at the start of every letter.
Don't get me wrong, if there's a genuine issue, we want him to be okay, and he should take all the time off he needs. He's also likely making well into six figures (in the American sense) to do this job, so if he's just got allergies, well, I feel bad, but if it's hindering his six figure job so much, then he needs to step aside.
And again, if he's really in serious condition, that's another story. He just tends to cry wolf, so it's hard to tell.
See I don't see it that way.
The only times I have seen him mention him being ill is in an apologetic way for not meeting the patch dead line or when he is just making idol chit chat. (which he likes to do a lot)
We all see things different ways, so I can't argue your personal take on it. :)
Still, making idle chit chat does not mean you're not whining in the process, and when using it as an apology, it becomes an "excuse", which isn't much better then straight whining.
Being sick or tired is just so consistently a theme in his letters, it's hard not to see it as crying wolf or whining. Maybe it's his translators taking too many liberties or something, I'm open to that idea, and my Japanese just isn't good enough to really get a feel for the intent behind the original writing.
