Why isn't the Temple Knights of Ishgard a Grand Company by now?

It's not that outrageous to suppose that the houses would be VERY reluctant to set a precedent of this kind. "Sure, the WoL did some amazing things, but if we let one outsider in, pretty soon they'll all be banging on the gates of Ishgard to sign up!" Never underestimate the lengths the privileged will go to to cling to the status quo! They're happy as they are, and in their mind any change is likely to be bad for them, rather than good. The Houses are likely particularly antsy, given that the greatest pillar their privileged position in society rested upon (that they are descendants of great heroes) has been taken away.

I think this is one of the places where we get a messy divide between the single-player story and collective MMORPG experience.

We-the-singular-Warrior-of-Light (and increasingly friend to all four high houses, depending on which side quests you’ve run) could probably be accepted into the Temple Knights if we wanted to be.

The hundreds of other adventurers who are not the Warrior of Light in your version of the story? Not so fast. They haven’t proven themself like you did.

It’s not impossible for them to set up a ‘GC wing’ of the knights in future, with looser standards on who can join. Although it would potentially get messy lore-wise to have it there in plain sight for new players coming up through Heavensward.

Well WOW has started adding unlockable options in-game for ppl that complete high end stuff, some are customization options (Night warriors NE) others are strickly gameplay (allied races).
Since Yoshida is a fan of Blizzard I can see them adding stuff along those lines

I know that the story concerns only the WoL controlled by the player not the others...I didn't mean to include other warriors by saying "We" I mostly refer to our experience

As for things getting messy....doubt it.Cuz after a certain rank your GC would encourage you to try the other GCs if you want to so if players didn't up their ranks by the time they get to HW content then Ishgard would be their introduction to that concept...which would encourage them to go back and get their GC promotions if they didn't do so before

I mean in terms of story and timeline. Outsiders are rarely let into the city at that point. It doesn’t make sense for there to be an open GC headquarters visible in the city, and open to large numbers of adventurers.

Well the GC won't be open immediately....it'll become available once the Grand Company Melee quest is finished

They have something like this for the temple levequests, I think, where the tent and so on are empty until you unlock that part...I may be remembering incorrectly.

Well after Ishgard joined the alliance it's been more open than how it used to be in like.....a 1000 year iirc?

They've been letting traders and some companies like the Ironworks in so enlisting the help of adventurers would probably be beneficial

The temple knights aren't as big in numbers as Maelstrom,Immortal Flames or even Gridania's Twin Adders and after the alliance's participation in the battle of Ala Mhigo in SB I'd imagine the Temple Knights would need more recruits.

Count Edmont and his son Artoriel seems now more fond of employing adventurers than ever and since Artoriel is taking over his father's place I'd imagine he at least would have it on the back of his mind for consideration
